Degrassi: The Forbidden Kiss

This week starts off with the terribly depressing J.T.'s funeral. Cut to Sean and Emma; Sean says he wants to make the guy pay who did this. Emma not so coyly reminds him that the guy who stabbed J.T. is in jail. At Degrassi later on, all the kids are outside the guidance counselor's office. Liberty isn't doing too well and everyone is sharing their condolences. Toby approaches her and Liberty says that she feels pressured to be like Mia-who is in the background crying hysterically. Toby and Liberty say how J.T. wouldn't want his funeral to be like this and how he would put woopie cushions on all the seats. All the kids take their turns seeing the school psychiatrist. While waiting, Mia comes up to Toby and asks him what the last thing J.T. said before he died. Toby tells her the pseudo truth, and says he talked about oatmeal- AKA Liberty. After Toby and Mia finish, Manny the voice of reason asks Toby if it was true. Toby admits that by oatmeal J.T. meant Liberty. Manny advises him not to tell Liberty about it right now because she's very upset and couldn't handle it.

Meanwhile, Ellie is interviewing Ashley for what one can only assume is an article- a very un-fun one at that. After briefly discussing the loss of J.T., Ellie mentions how she didn't tell Jesse about kissing Craig. Ellie seems to think the relationship would be over if she told him. After school outside The Dot, Liberty and Toby are chatting once again. Liberty says she can't feel a thing, being numb from the loss. Liberty admits to having feelings for J.T. but she is still hell bent on thinking he only had feelings for Mia.

Later on, Toby gets J.T.'s locker combination to start cleaning it out. Mia, Liberty, and Toby start going through the locker. Mia finds a tape. Mia is ecstatic and tells them all it's a tape of J.T. playing with Isabella. Mia suggests they play it at the memorial service. Toby and Liberty veto her idea insisting that Mr. Simpson already put together a slideshow. Mia now infuriated, starts taking everything out of the locker and jamming it into her purse. Liberty and Toby start yelling at her. Mia lashes out at Liberty calling her a robot, a walking talking computer, for not showing any emotion over the whole situation. Toby stops Mia in her frantic locker frenzy and tells her they will finish the locker clean out later. Liberty, pissed off, runs out of the school. Toby follows her and apologizes for what Mia said. Toby suggests they take a road trip to take their minds off of their misery. Liberty is enthralled with the idea and the two scamper off.

At the core, Jesse gives Ellie a corny coupon book- tickets for things like a free neck rub, one free mixed cd, etc. The cheese-tastic book also reads 'I love you' at the end. Jesse tells her that when you say or write that you expect a specific response. Ellie takes it upon herself at this point to tell him she kissed Craig. Jesse is not the least bit angry and Ellie wonders why. Jesse finally admits to meeting and hooking up with a random girl at a bar. He says he wasn't sure where they stood and he hadn't seen in her in weeks. Ellie is pissed and these two are both lame. Meanwhile, Toby and Liberty are off on their road trip when the car breaks down. Toby, enraged with the car, gets out and starts pounding on the hood and yelling at the car. Liberty can't help but laugh. Toby comes up to her and says he's glad he made her laugh. Toby and Liberty lean towards one another and share an awkward kiss.

At J.T.'s memorial, Danny tells Toby that the road trip meant a lot to Liberty. Danny is neither blind, deaf, nor dumb and seems to think that something is going down with Toby and Liberty. Out of nowhere, Manny comes into meddle. Manny asks Toby what's up and if he's coo coo bananas (note: the second episode in a row where Manny has used the phrase 'coo coo bananas'). Toby admits that he and Liberty kissed. Manny shoves him into the boy's locker room to tell him that what he's doing is wrong. Toby says that it doesn't really matter because he can't take it back. Manny demands he issue an official kiss retraction, or tell her he was on crack. At the Core office, Ellie drops a box of Jesse's stuff on his desk. Ellie declares it's so over and storms off. Jesse chases after her and says they both made a mistake. Ellie doesn't seem to grasp it and says she kissed someone whereas he did a lot more. Jesse reminds her that it was someone she had been crushing on forever and his girl was random. Jesse asks her again if she loves him. Ellie has nothing to say and runs off saying she has to get to the memorial.

At the memorial, Toby comes up to Liberty in an attempt to take back the kiss. Liberty says she doesn't think that's how it works and it's not like a library book. Liberty asks Toby if he likes her and he says yes. Liberty says she likes him too, therefore problem solved. Ellie is at the service going on with her silly article interviewing Jimmy. Jimmy starts going on about how life is random, yada yada yada, and talks about finding someone you love. How does this translate into finding love? The service begins with an all too creepy painting of J.T. Mr. Simpson is leading the ceremony and puts on his slide show that Peter and Spinner helped him make. Backstage Mia pulls Toby aside; she keeps pushing him to play the video of J.T. and Isabella playing. Toby says no again and Mia proclaims that he and Liberty are always trying to keep her down. Mia then goes on to say that J.T. couldn't stand Liberty anyway. Toby has had enough, breaks down and tells her that J.T. confessed his love for Liberty right before he died. Mia, enraged, runs off and then into Liberty. Liberty says she'll play the tape. Toby approaches and asks her what she heard. Liberty admits she heard the whole thing. Liberty now pissed off with Toby walks away. Of course Toby follows. Liberty starts screaming about how he hurt her by not telling her about J.T. Liberty tells Toby she wishes J.T. was still around and takes off for the ceremony. Liberty hands Spinner Mia's tape. It's a really cute video of J.T. playing with Mia. Everyone watches, cries, and becomes depressed. Liberty finally breaks down and starts crying.

At the office, Jesse and Ellie are chatting. Ellie pretty much forgives him and still nobody cares. Back at Degrassi, Mia, Toby, and Liberty meet at J.T.'s locker again to clean it out- this time on more amicable terms. Mia says that deep down she always knew that J.T. loved Liberty and the kids start the locker clean out. Next week: Manny and her new boy Damien, Manny moves out of Emma's house, and more Lakehurst rivalry.
