Scrubs - "My Long Goodbye"

After a brief break, Scrubs is back. When we last visited Sacred Heart, we found out Nurse Laverne was involved in a car accident. We learn she's suffered major head trauma. The rest of the staff involved themselves in various life-affirming activities. Elliot and Keith had a little horizontal mambo action (although after 5 times, Elliot was still sad.). JD and Turk attempted to take out Kelso's mailbox (unsuccessfully – he had it reinforced with titanium as his wife kept backing the RV into it) and Cox shaved his head again (remember the episode before last? Continuity, line 1!) Carla had to break the news to Laverne's family, which made J.D. wish for a bad news robot.

Elliot checks in on Laverne and applies some makeup. Carla tells her not to say her goodbyes yet. Then, she is mysteriously joined by Laverne's (still sassy) spirit. Jordan is getting her c-section and Cox is still worried that the baby won't come out alright. J.D. feels he's entering into Cox's inner circle (Could he be the godfather?) but in his daydream didn't hear the secret request Cox had for him – although he agreed to do his bidding.

Janitor said goodbye to Laverne and apologized for being a bad lifeguard at her above ground pool party (resulting in the loss of her dog). Carla forbids any additional goodbyes from the staff. Jordan had the baby, and both are doing fine. Kelso gave Laverne a rather passionate goodbye kiss. Laverne's spirit told Carla that they had relations in the past. JD found out that he was supposed to get Cox kid from daycare, not pick up film for the camera (which is what the audiologist told him after reading his lips – which represented what he thought Cox told him). Fortunately, J.D. can walk and text at the same time and sends the speed metal delivery guy to do his bidding. Cox was about to tell everyone about the new arrival was interrupted by a problem with Laverne. This can't be good...

Laverne was brain dead. Her family decided to take her off life support, so all the staff had to do was wait for her to expire. Jordan is strung out on painkillers and ready for the well-wishers. Cox isn't telling everyone about the child so her birth won't be associated with Laverne's death. Turk manages to say his goodbyes, but Carla is having a hard time. She can't get rid of the Laverne spirit. Elliot and Turk thinks she needs to go say her goodbyes. J.D. is still trying to figure out how to keep Jordan entertained (shadow puppet theater?) so she won't realize that she doesn't have any well-wishers. Elliot and her glowing uterus determined that someone had a baby and spread the news quickly. Everyone congratulated Cox on the happy news and this finally prompted Carla to say goodbye to Laverne. It seemed she was just waiting for this farewell, because after Carla gave her heartfelt and touching farewell, she passed on. The gang went out to drown their sorrows. Cox forgot that Jordan was still back at the hospital – un-congratulated. She was so mad at Cox that she made J.D. the baby's godfather and named her Jennifer Dylan (she'll be JD forever...). In the end, everyone toasted Laverne – she'll be missed.
