The Amazing Race; Episode 10: “We Are Trying to Make Love, Not War”

Departing the Pit Stop in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, teams are instructed to fly to Hong Kong, China and travel by taxi to a specific laundry. The Beauty Queens were the first to take off just after midnight for the deserted airport. Since everything was closed, all the teams caught up with each other. That’s when everything went crazy as the teams tried to outmaneuver each other onto the earliest flight possible.

The Beauty Queens decided to sit and wait for the Malaysian Air counter to open at 4am, while the Cha Chas opted to search the airport for a better option. Their move paid off when they found the Malaysian Air office and put their names on the wait list. They also found the China Air office and put their names on stand by, along with Charla & Mirna, ahead of the other two teams. When the Beauty Queens and Eric & Danielle found out that the other two teams had bypassed them, they got pissed off and tried to get ahead but were unsuccessful.

The Cha Chas made it on to the China Air flight and gave Charla & Mirna their stand by number for the Malaysian Air flight so that they could jump ahead of the other two teams. Mirna tried hard and actually temporarily succeeded in jumping ahead, but Dustin & Kandice fought back and got on the Malaysian Air flight with them. That left Eric & Danielle to take the last flight out because they opted to exchange their money instead of trying to get tickets.

With an already really comfortable lead, Oswald & Danny got to extend their lead further when they arrived at the laundry in Hong Kong and decided to take the last Fast Forward of the race. All they had to was travel to a film set and get in a car with a stunt driver who flipped the car on a rail. This definitely goes down as one of the best challenges during this season. It didn’t require them to do much, but it looked like it was tons of fun. When they got out of the wrecked car, they got their next clue which instructed them to travel to the Pit Stop at the Hong Kong Jockey Club. The Cha Chas easily catapulted themselves out of their fourth place finish last week and into first, winning a trip for 2 back to Hong Kong from Travelocity.

With the Fast Forward taken, the Beauty Queens faced a Detour and opted to do “Kung Fu Fighting” (as did the other two teams). The task required them to climb an 11-story bamboo scaffolding on the side of a building while ninjas on wires fought around them, causing the scaffolding to shake a lot. Dustin & Kandice completed the task with no problem. They then got a clue telling them to take the ferry to Hong Kong Island and find the old police headquarters building.

Charla & Mirna couldn’t decide which Detour to do but ultimately decided to do “Kung Fu Fighting” as well. I had no faith that little Charla would be able to pull it off given her stature, but as usual she proved me wrong and pulled her way up to the top. I still don’t like them, but they’ve certainly earned my respect. At the very least I want them to beat the bitchy Beauty Queens.

Arriving at the old police building, Dustin & Kandice encounter a Roadblock requiring them to kick down doors throughout the building while searching for a clue hidden in a room. The clue they find sends them to Victoria Park where they have to complete a stupid task that’s nothing but a blatant Travelocity promo (pull a boat carrying the Travelocity gnome across a pool). They then make their way to the Pit Stop and finish the leg in second place. Charla & Mirna got stuck in some traffic but made it to the Pit Stop in third.

Eric & Danielle arrived last and did all of the same tasks as the second and third place teams. However, this wasn’t the end of the road for them as Phil informed them that this was in fact the last non-elimination round of the race.
