I have a hate/love relationship with May. I love that it is almost Summertime, my favorite time of year, but I hate it because I know it means that all my favorite shows are coming to an end, some ending for forever. On the season finale of Grey's lots of things are coming to an end, but on the otherhand lots of things are just beginning. So, let's get into the "anatomy" of the Grey's Anatomy season finale.
The day is off to a crazy start dealing with the fourth mountain climber, who as you remember was brought to Seattle Grace in the final minutes of last episode. The guy has an ax sticking out of his skull, it's not a pretty sight. The doctors, especially Derek, are suspicious about the other climbers accounts of what happened on the mountain. He has good reason. Later the climbers tell a story about accidentally hitting their friend with the ax. But, again later while Derek is doing surgery on the poor guy he discovers that by the looks of the wound it was not an accident at all, it had to have been on purpose. Finally after having to get the police involved the guys fess up and tell the truth. The truth is that their friend was suffering and they didn't want to watch him suffer anymore, so they felt the best thing to do as his friend was put him out of his misery. Though it is a little sick and twisted, I personally can see where they were coming from. I still don't think I'd have the emotional strength to put an ax through a friend's head though, no matter what the circumstances might be.
Today is the BIG DAY! It's Cristina and Burke's wedding day! The problem is Cristina couldn't be any less excited. After Cristina starts expressing some second thoughts to Meredith, Meredith tells her that she 'needs' her to walk down that aisle. Meredith needs to know that it can happen, it is possible for people like her and Cristina. Cristina asks "So, my wedding is all about you?" Meredith tells her "yes." It's "Grey's" Anatomy, did Cristina not get the memo?! Gees!
Back to the hospital, the baby momma who could potentially have Joe and his partner's child(ren) has been rushed to the hospital. She needs immediate surgery, she only has about 12 hours left to live if she doesn't, and her babies will have to be delivered. Though an emotional wreck last episode, this time Joe pulls it together and is strong for the lady. He tells her that she doesn't have to make any decision now, she can take her time. The lady comes out of surgery fine, as do the babies, and Joe and his partner are holding them. It looks like Joe and his partner are the proud parents to newborn twins.
As to be expected, there is a lot more drama at Seattle Grace. With the Chief's wife, Adele, unconscious, Addison has the job of breaking the news to Richard that his wife (remember they are in the middle of a divorce) is pregnant. And, who knows who the baby daddy is. It's almost as much of a nail biter as the Anna Nicole Smith baby daddy saga. Once Adele wakes up she freaks out that Richard knows. She tries to get him to leave the room, she is obviously embarrassed, but he refuses. He sits with her and helps her take her pill. He doesn't seem to be judging her at all, he just genuinely seems concerned with how she's doing.
Throughout the day in between caring for Adele, the Chief has some tough decisions to make, or at least to share with everyone else. He first calls Sloane in and tells him that he will not be the new chief. Later Addison practically begs for the job telling the Chief that she needs the job to jumpstart her life. He tells her that if she needs a job to jumpstart her life then maybe it's a new life that she needs, not the job. With that it is clear Addison has also not be chosen to be the new chief. The Chief calls Burke in and tells him that he was really disappointed with him this year, but that he still "wants" to name him the new chief, but he can't. On that note Burke gets up before even hearing the Chief's explanation and tells him "I have a wedding to go to." So, who does the Chief choose to succeed him? Derek. But, wait... Derek tells him he doesn't want the job, he tells the Chief to continue the job. Oh gees... the drama! So, now we have either Callie or Miranda. Personally, it seems like there is no choice, Miranda should be named chief, after all where the hell did Callie come from anyway, she acts like she's been a major player at Seattle Grace all along yet we never heard about her. Anyway, as it turns out the Chief names Callie as the new chief. Yeah... woo-hoo for Callie... I can't even imagine her as the chief next season, how is that going to work out? Seriously.
Rather than going through the episode scene-by-scene, I'll wrap up each character so that you know where each stands going into next season.
Callie and George
She decides (somewhat out of the blue) that she is ready to have a baby. She confronts George and tells him that she can't get the thought out of her head, she is consumed by it. He dodges the idea at first, but later he tells her that if she wants a baby then they can do that. She's ecstatic... they get right to business, if you know what I mean. Hmm... maybe we'll come back in the Fall to Callie being pregnant, that would spice things up.
George and Izzie
With Callie and George trying to have a baby, where does this leave George and Izzie? Well, Izzie finally spills the beans to George and tells him that as his best friend she will support his marriage to Callie, but she is in love with him and she hopes he feels the same for her. I wish either George would leave Callie for Izzie or he'd just flat out tell Izzie no and make things work with Callie, I'm not sure I can handle much more of them fooling around on the side, it's starting to wear on my nerves. They better make something either happen or let it go next season. Oh yeah, and George damn well better be back next season.
Alex and Rebecca (fomerly Ava)
Like Izzie and George I've just been trying to wait patiently for something to happen between Alex and Rebecca, finally things went somewhere. Rebecca's husband (played by Jason London) finally shows up. Alex questions him later when he sees him holding the baby about why he didn't come looking for Rebecca sooner. He tells Alex that he thought she had left him, he says that what's worse than him not looking for her is that he never even saw her when she was there. They should've given Jason London a larger role because he definitely would be a good fit on the show. Later while her husband is out, Rebecca tells Alex that she and the baby are being discharged. She begs Alex to give her a reason to stay. She finally acknowledges that they have feelings for each other. Alex isn't so quick to the game, instead he just tries to act like has has no connection with her. He tells her that she should go with her husband - he's a good, decent guy. Alex seems to regret his decision later at the wedding and heads back to try to find Rebecca, but she has already left. Maybe he'll chase after Rebecca next season. It wouldn't surprise me as (again) I can't believe they'd only bring Jason London on for one episode. I'm sure he'll be on next season.
Richard and Adele
Something happened and she had to have surgery. Richard anxiously awaited to hear how things went -- why he didn't oversee it is beyond me -- Addison comes out and sadly tells him that she did everything she could, but they couldn't save... and at that moment Richard runs through the surgery doors to try to see Adele. He finds her and she is laying in the bed with her eyes shut, almost looking as if she were dead, but then she opens her eyes and Richard lets out a big breath and almost goes into tears. He tells her he thought he lost her for a second. Adele tells him that it was his baby, it was a boy. They couldn't save the baby though. Things end well between these two, so it looks like they might give it another shot next season.
Derek and Meredith
It seems like things have been on-and-off lately for these two and we aren't the only ones to notice, Derek has too. When Meredith tries to flirt with him he can't help but rub it in her face that he met a woman at the bar. She asks if she should be worried. He tells her no, but then he tells her that she should be worried about that being the highlight of his week. You tell her how it is! Meredith confronts Derek later about this. She tells him that she can't handle him throwing things like that in her face, if she doesn't want to be in the relationship then just end it. He tells her that he's in it, but questions whether she is. She doesn't really respond, it seems like she doesn't know how to, instead she tells him that they need to get to Cristina and Burke's wedding. After this I don't see these two working things out next season. It seems like Meredith wants it to be over between them but doesn't want to be the one to end it. Things are definitely stale between these two and have been for a while. Though I think they are good together, I wouldn't mind seeing them date around again. With a whole new batch of interns next season I'm sure Derek will find at least one to date.
Addison
After the meeting with the Chief it is even more clear that Addison is ready for not only a new job, but a whole new life. Things aren't working out for her in Seattle. Despite knowing that "Private Practice" was picked up for the Fall, there still wasn't a goodbye for Addison. I hope they don't just start next season and "Private Practice" with Addison magically in California and not much said about what happened. They need to wrap things up between her and everyone in Seattle. Maybe they will start "Private Practice" with her saying goodbye to everyone at Seattle Grace, or her saying goodbye to everyone on the first episode of next season. Something.
The Interns and Bailey
Bailey sees the announcement that Callie has been named the new Chief Resident. I think she is a mix of pissed off, disappointed and sad. She totally deserved it more than Callie. As for the interns, before heading off to the wedding all of them get their exam results. They excitedly open the envelopes and find out that they passed, except George, well he tells everyone that he passed, but then we later find out that he actually didn't. He doesn't end up going to the wedding, either does Bailey. George finds Bailey sitting on a bench outside the hospital. She tells him that she's really sorry, she asks if she failed him. He tells her no, that he failed her. She tells him that he has two options: walk away from it altogether or do his internship all over again. He tells her that he can't do the internship again. We see George packing up his locker at the end of the finale. George better be back next season. Let's hope there was a screw up on the results or maybe he'll just do the internship over again, who knows. And, where does this leave Bailey for next season? Will she really want to continue with Callie as the Chief? I think maybe she'll just focus on the clinic full-time.
THE WEDDING (Cristina and Burke)
After a day from hell with Burke's mother, Cristina is now eyebrow-less, well, Izzie has drawn fake ones on for her. Just before she's about to walk down the aisle she starts to freak out, she accidentally washed the vows off her hand. After a few minutes of also freaking out and not knowing what to do, Meredith pulls it together, she grabs Cristina and tells her that whether she wants to or not she going down that aisle. After that Cristina gets it together and it looks like the wedding will go on. Not so fast though. Burke is done waiting for Cristina, he's coming to terms with the truth. He tells her that if he knows she doesn't want to walk down the aisle, but that she will because she loves him. But, if he really loved her he wouldn't be waiting for her to walk down the aisle, he'd be letting her go. Cristina tries to settle Burke down, she tells him she does think that this marriage is what she wants. He gives her a look and tells her that he wishes she didn't just think but "knew" that it was what she wanted. The wedding is not happening, Meredith tells everyone that the wedding is over. When Cristina returns home, still in her wedding dress, she finds that some of Burke's things are gone. She says "I'm free" but it's not a "happy free" it's more of a "what do I do now free." She literally breaks down and is hysterical, Meredith has to cut the wedding dress off of her.
I think things are totally over with for Cristina and Burke. It's still up in the air whether Burke will be back next season, but I think he will be, I also feel that George will be as well, or at least I hope. It will be a lot of drama between Cristina and Burke having to work together, but we obviously love drama or we wouldn't be watching Grey's Anatomy, right?
The NEW Interns
As George was packing up his locker we see the new group of interns walk in. Apparently they waste no time. The big surprise is that one of the interns is the girl Derek met at the bar, and you won't believe who she is. Well, then again you may have already guessed who she is. She introduces herself to George as, "Lexi Grey." Oh snap! I can already see the drama happening next season. George has to stick around to see this one play out.
Next Season
Anyone have any predictions for next season? Do you think George and/or Burke will be back? Will Callie get pregnant? How will she be as the new Chief? How do you think Meredith will handle having her long lost sister as an intern? And one last question, will you be watching Private Practice this Fall?

Isaiah Out?
Just heard some rumors that Isaiah Washington is NOT going to be back for next season, but T.R. Knight WILL be. The rumors are from credible sources, but we still won't know for sure until next season.
