Shear Genius - Season Finale

I feel like this awesome show just began, and yet it's already time for the season finale. Hopefully next time Bravo will give the fans some more instead of a measly 8 competition episodes and 1 reunion show. Rene got things rolling by giving us a quick rundown on how each of the 3 finalists have fared so far in the competition. Nothing terribly new or groundbreaking, but he did note that in 6 of the past 7 elimination challenges, Daisy has been in the top 3. How did I not realize this?! I still think the final 3 should have been Anthony, Tabatha, and Tyson, but I guess Daisy really did earn her spot.

Rene then gives the finalists the last assignment. They will have 3 hours to create 3 different hairstyles; one must be the Vidal Sassoon "Nancy Kwan" bob and 2 free choices, but at least one of the hairstyles must use coloring. The stylists will also have 3 different wardrobes by different designers to choose from. Once the task hadbeen given, out strolled Vidal Sassoon. Anthony, Ben, and Daisy all cream their pants. (Well...Daisy did whatever it is women do in their pants.) Vidal is ADORABLE! Of course, I knew of the man but I don't think I had ever seen him before. I really really want him to be my new adoptive grandpa.
Anthony, Ben, and Daisy then randomly pick scissor boxes to determine who will select wardrobe first. Daisy is first and selects Luca Luca, followed by Anthony (Cynthia Rowley), and Ben is last (Dina Bar-El). The stylists then select three dresses from the rack to go with the hairstyles that they're envisioning. The clients were all preselected based upon whichever wardrobe the stylists choose and most of them had really horrible hair.
Ben's theme was a progression from outer beauty to inner beauty. Daisy didn't have much of a theme aside from wanting to use an "S" shape to unify the hairstyles. Anthony decided that his theme would be "modern movement."
Some of the clients had issues with having their hair cut. However, Anthony was able to convince his client to give in. Ben wasn't as successful. Anthony also had it out with Rene when the incredibly annoying mentor dropped by to critique his work. Daisy and Ben ended up being pressed for time as the clock ran down.
Daisy's bob looked fine except for a "dent" (as Michael Carl so eloquently put it) in the hair that was supposed to be her attempt to create an "S" curve. Her second hairstyle was more successful at creating the "S" curve but the poor woman looked like she had way too much hair; it really needed to be thinned out or layered a bit. Her final do involved color and pin curls. It was a complete disaster. The poor model had tight, messy curls wrapped around her head, just above the ears.
Anthony was much more successful in his hairstyles. They all were very similar and perfectly achieved the desired movement. As his clients strutted down the runway, their hair flowed beautifully as though it were lighter than air.
Ben had a bit more variety. He started with a "Hollywood Updo" that looked great in the front but was a complete mess in the back. His "Nancy Kwan" bob was my favorite of the 3 bobs attempted by the stylists. His final cut was very sexy. He took a bland looking middle-aged woman and turned her into a vixen. I didn't really get how any of these fit into his supposed theme but whatever.
As the judges deliberated, Vidal didn't seem to have many negative things to say. While this normally pisses me off in a judge, it only further endeared Vidal to me. I just wanted to hug him. No one seemed particularly happy with any of the bobs though and felt they could have been better. When they were done, there was really no telling which way they would end up going.
When the final 3 were called, Jaclyn told them than any of the 3 of them could have easily won the competition and I actually agreed with her; they were all almost equally matched. Almost. Daisy's final haircut sealed her fate and she was eliminated.
Remarkably, I actually felt there was a chance Ben could win the whole thing. As great as Anthony's hairstyles were, they were actually kind of boring in their sameness...but they were still really hot. However, Ben's updo just didn't cut and Anthony was rightfully declared the winner! It should've been Tabatha, dammit, but Anthony's was the next best thing.
