Poor Dex is still reeling from the discovery of how Harry really died. Doakes tried to talk to him and said he could make a change by letting him go. He said "it's over." Dexter said it was over when he said it was and threatened to off Doakes (since he felt he was "flying without a code.") Doakes knew that, deep down, Dex couldn't go through with it. Doakes told Dex to turn himself in - he thinks he'd eventually hurt someone close to him, as his "cancer" is spreading. He told him to take responsibility for who he is. Doakes thought he was getting through to Dexter, but was interrupted by a phone call. Dexter went outside to take it, it was the hospital - telling him about Lila being admitted with respiratory arrest. Dex wondered why he was called and didn't want to go to the hospital, 2 hours away. The doctor said there was a "legal complication" and that he couldn't tell him over the phone. Dexter takes off, leaving Doakes in his cage. Doakes has other ideas and starts to hit the cage with his foot.
Dexter arrives at the hospital and came upon Angel and the doctor. The doc told Dexter that they found roofies in her system and paired with the bruises from their nookie session, Angel could be charged with sexual assault. Dex says that didn't happen and goes to talk to her. Dexter calls her actions "desperate." He said the best she could come up with to win him back was "framing a good man to get what you want (which is precisely what I'm doing to Doakes.)" Lila says she won't press charges against Angel if he promises he'll take her back. She claims she's his true soulmate. Dex says it's not gonna happen. Dexter and Angel go to a bar and Angel says he knows Dexter warned him about hooking up with Lila and was worried he's now going to lose everything. Dex said maybe she'd come to her senses and told Angel if he could choose a real person to be like, it would have been him. Angel wasn't quite sure what that meant, but thanked him for the compliment - and asked him to keep quiet about Lila.
Deb and Lundy had early morning shower sex. Ewww. They were ordered to work - by Lundy's boss. They found the weapons that were covered in Doakes' fingerprints. Lundy was annoyed that he wasn't told of the discovery before the team's briefing. The big boss, Adams, then showed footage from a gas station near Naples where Doakes was filling up. (Vince: "I can't believe it...$3.49 for regular.") Adams tells the team not to drop the ball again. Dexter knew they'd get Doakes soon, but wasn't looking forward to the years of trials and finger-pointing from Doakes. Doakes, meanwhile, managed to knock a big enough hole in the cage to escape.
Deb told Angel that she can't believe Adams was giving Lundy such a hard time. Angel reminded her that Lundy let Doakes go after questioning. 2 officers came down to homicide to serve an arrest warrant for Angel. When Deb found out it had to do with Lila, she lost it. As Angel was taken away in cuffs, he told Dexter it wasn't his fault. Dexter was starting to feel...bad?...about Angel, LaGuerta and even Lundy. He got a phone call from Rita, whose car broke down. He went to get her.
Doakes was making his way through the Everglades and saw an airboat. He flagged the boat down and told the Spanish-speaking men that he came from the cabin and that he was a police officer, which was enough for them to knock him unconscious and take off with him. Deb asks Lundy why Adams was there; he says it was because there was no "movement" on the case. Deb reminded him that he found the blood slides in Doakes' car, Lundy reminded her that he let Doakes go - because he wasn't sure of his guilt. Deb told him he was a "god." Dexter checked out Rita's car, which was shot and offered his minivan to her. Rita wanted to repay him with dinner, but Dex suggested that she and the kids go out in his boat. She hesitates but Dexter says he just wants to spend some time with them. Dexter returned to the cabin with food for Doakes but he's not there. Right then, the 2 Spanish-speaking men are leading a tied-up Doakes (with a gun) back to the cabin. Dexter hides before they arrive and makes eye contact with Doakes. They've got a plan. One of the men comes out of the cabin with some cocaine and forces Doakes to hold it. He heads back in for more and Doakes starts to walk away, creating a distraction which allows Dexter to sneak in the cabin and dispatch one of the men. The other guy gets the blow thrown in his face, which gives Dex a chance to shoot him with the other guy's gun. Sneaky. Unfortunately for Doakes, they're right back where they started from. This time, however, Dexter has reinforced the cage. Dexter tells Doakes that he thinks he's going to turn himself in. Doakes says that's a good call and Dexter actually feels a bit relieved. Doakes says he'll go with him, but Dexter says he needs a day to get his affairs in order, so it's another night in the cage for Doakes. Dexter calls Deb and says he wants her to sign some papers for him. She asks him to join her, Vince and Angel for drinks. She says Angel's not doing well. Dex says he'll bring the papers to work the next day. He feels strangely calm.
LaGuerta asks her boss for a personal day, to help prove Doakes' innocence. He says she can't take any time off because the department is 2 officers down. She says she's not asking, she's telling. She won't be in the next day. Deb and the boys are talking about Lila. Deb says that Angel has to fight for himself. The next day, Dexter shows up at Lila's house. He asked her to drop the charges against Angel. She refuses. Dexter tells her that after the next day, he won't be around ever again - and tells her goodbye. Deb talks to Lundy about Lila. She can't figure out why Dexter and Angel were duped by her and then asks Lundy if he'll search the FBI files for information on Lila. Turns out she has no warrants, no records, no drivers license and no social security number. She's living under an alias. Deb vows to find out who she is. She gets a microwave that Lila used to make popcorn from Angel's place and gives it to Vince to find fingerprints.
Dexter brings a notary to Deb's desk so she can sign Dexter's living trust. Dexter told Deb he didn't think Lila was going to be a problem anymore and invited Deb over for steaks so he could talk to her about something. Meanwhile, LaGuerta was in Haiti, digging for information to help clear Doakes. She calls Lundy and tells him that Doakes' Haitian travel agent didn't tell the FBI during questioning that Doakes had asked him about a lab to take the blood slides to be analyzed. She also said the travel agent gave her details and dates for Doakes' special ops missions and 2 of them were during times that BHB victims were killed. Lundy asks for all of the details.
Dexter takes Rita and the kids out on his boat, and Lila witnesses them. She's upset and breaks into the minivan. She finds the GPS in the glove compartment (listing all of the places Dexter has been) and steals it. Dexter had a fun time with Rita and the kids. He gave Rita the pink slip for the minivan. Rita tells Dexter she has too many feelings for him and wants to make sure to get it right. Dexter goes in for a kiss - so much for taking it slow! Deb figured out who Lila was - her visa expired 2 years ago. Deb vows to see her deported. Lundy says it will take a long time, but Deb says she'll deport Lila herself. Adams tells Lundy that they got a tip on Doakes' whereabouts from a park ranger who gave Doakes directions. Lundy said that they should be careful in apprehending Doakes as he may not be the killer. Adams asked him to have some guts, Deb told Adams to have a little respect. Guess she can fight her own battles now. Deb goes to Lila's and tells her that she knows all about Lila and tells her to leave Miami and never talk to Dexter or Angel again. Lila tells her that she doesn't want to do that and, after Deb leaves, she gets in the car and uses the GPS to find the last place Dexter was.
Dexter is preparing dinner for Deb, he sees relief in sight but can't figure out how to tell Deb. He runs through a few scenarios in his mind - in one she chokes, in another she pulls a gun on him, in one she cries and in the last, she kills him. Deb shows up with extra beer to celebrate her "running Lila out of town." Deb feels great, for the first time in months - she's back, new and improved. She told Dex that she was finally able to see through everything to be who she really was. Dex knew right then that he couldn't tell Deb who he really was. Dex started to ride it out, it's his life, not Harry's. He made a plan to frame Doakes, and he was going to stick to it. Deb got a call, they found Doakes' rental car. Dexter got worried and hoped they wouldn't find Doakes as well. Lila arrived at the destination as guided by the GPS. It's the cabin. Oooh, a lot is going to hit the fan in next week's season finale!
