Mia supervises the launch of Modern Man magazine, a pet project of Jack's before he left in the great publisher-off of 2008 which netted Mia her new job but cost her Jack. Editor Todd was Jack's hire, and as such has the unfortunate task of defending the Jack-approved cover -- a tiny man squealing on a plate as a woman, deep cleavage looming, digs in.
Is it wise to feed the rumor mill fresh gristle about a woman who's just chosen career over matrimony? Maybe not, but Mia's got magazines to sell, so she lets Todd run the cover, though not without a bittersweet letter to Jack disguised as a letter from the publisher. The letter explains but does not apologize for wanting success, and doesn't chastise so much as forgive the modern man for being afraid of her. Modern Woman can't wait, though, so Mia finally packs up Jack's stuff and calls her mother to tell her that she's single again.
The rumor mill calls out Caitlin, as well, when a blind item on a gossip blog exposes her budding lesbionic relationship with the winsome Alicia. With Alicia AWOL and boss Lily Parrish hunting for the lesbian in her midst, Caitlin's stressing out so much that the grandfather of all pimples decides to emerge on her crease-free forehead. Once she reconnects with Alicia for some more making out in the street, all is well, and her career and complexion are clear. Lily ends up taking the lesbian rumor as the seed for a new marketing campaign, and decides to see if Portia de Rossi could be their next spokeswoman.
Zoe and colleague Clayton head to Boston to make a $300 million deal for "the next Facebook". Clayton invites analyst Katherine, who's all flash and "Business Barbie". She offends Zoe when, during negotiations, she gives away a point of the firm's commission -- she seals the deal, but Zoe's up in arms over a loss in profit.
Sit back, Zoe, you've got more problems on your hands -- married Clayton is having an affair with Katherine. Hands up if you totally saw that coming? Yeah, me too. Zoe tries to drop a hint to Katherine about not being "an inconvenient woman", but Business Barbie doesn't bite. She does bite, though, when Claytong dumps her at Zoe's urging. The problem, though, is that Katherine has a good case for a sexual harassment lawsuit. Clayton takes care of it... by promoting Zoe, and keeping her in the same group. Much to Zoe's chagrin. The homefront is looking better, though, as she does the episode doing her own "Business Barbie" act in the sack with hot shirtless Eric.
The rumor mill I was talking about earlier? Set into motion by none other than Cilla Grey, Juliet's enemy and apparently more than just a meaningless fling. When Juliet discovers that Davis took Cilla to Cap Juluca, which was their place, Davis's recent romantic ovations go out the window.
Juliet meets with Bobby Walsh, who has been eager to consummate his years-long crush on J. Juliet almost does it, but decides she still loves Davis enough not to do it. However, Juliet isn't an idiot, so she pleasantly tells Davis that they're even without explaining what "even" actually is. He gets the message, though. As to Cilla, Juliet meets her for coffee in the park. She promises to get her friend on the Arbogast co-op board to put in a good word for Cilla's application as long as Cilla ceases and desists. Cilla agrees, and happily goes on her way. So is this the last time we see Cilla? Is Juliet actually done with her?
