Last week, Ray dropped the bomb that he wanted to adopt Sam and Nick caught Aubrey entering a strangers motel room after she lied to him and said she was going to a concert.
This week, it's time to clear some things up. But, first we start with some games. Eddie and Physical Phil are playing the Nintendo Wii boxing. Nick drops by and tells the guys (and pizza girl) about him catching Aubrey at the motel. Owen is also there and threatens to go beat the guy up. Nick leaves and later as he's on his way to confront Aubrey's mystery person Sam tries to talk to him, but Nick tells him he's too busy. Nick knocks on the door of the motel room and gets quite a surprise when the mystery person answers. It's an older guy, Nick is still thinking Aubrey is cheating on him, just with an old guy. Nick tells the guy that he is Aubrey's boyfriend to which the other guy tells him that he is Aubrey's father. I think it's safe to say Nick is a little embarrassed. Leslie (Dean Etwood) starts the morning off looking smokin' in a red dress. She reminds him about an upcoming dance that she'd love to go to. Bob isn't into it until she calls him an 'old fart.' And, 'old fart' he is, after she walks away he goes to stand up and only gets about half way up before his back starts hurting him. Ikey helps deliver a bathtub to Ray and Hannah's house. Hannah invites Ikey to dinner, Ikey gladly accepts the invite. Afterward Ikey tells Hannah that Ray told him about wanting to adopt Sam. The look on Hannah's is that she wants to kill Ray. It's been a while since we last saw Alison, but she's back at least for the moment. She drops off the kids with Owen and then pulls him aside to talk about their separation. She tells him that the other day she got asked on a date, but she wasn't sure what to say. She's confused, she asks Owen if he's been dating. He stumbles on his words at first, but then tells her that he has been going on dates and tells her that she should too.
Back at the motel, Nick talks to Aubrey's father. He tells Nick he wants to make things right with her, but Nick is still a little leary after what he has heard from Aubrey. Before Nick leaves he tells Nick that he should try to help him. Owen is back at Phil and Eddie's, and of course pizza girl is there. Owen tells them about Alison dating and he wants to date too. This starts a battle between Phil vs. Eddie vs. Pizza girl over who can set Owen up with the best girl. Nick confronts Aubrey after she's done with classes and tells her that he knows about her dad. At first she is pissed about Nick following her to the motel, but Nick keeps asking why she lied to him. She tells him that her father comes in to her life every so often trying to make things right, but before long he always disappears again. Nick tells her that she's sorry, she says sorry for lying to him. He tells her that he just wants to be a part of her life. She says her father isn't part of her life and that's the way she wants to keep it.
Later, Hannah confronts Ray about him telling Ikey about wanting to adopt Sam. She questions Ray why he always has to have things move so fast. He questions her right back of why she's making things so difficult. He tells her that it's really fairly simple they have papers to fill out and they need to talk to Sam. Little does he know about the drama of "who is Sam's dad?"
The next morning, Sam stops by Best Friend Windows to give Nick a piece of his mind. He is mad and upset about Nick blowing him off the day before and about Nick not spending any time with him lately. He tells Nick that he was dumb to believe him before about wanting to be his friend, he just wanted to get closer to his mom. Before Sam storms out of the store he tells Nick, "my whole life I didn't know you existed and now I kinda wish you didn't." Is it just me or does Sam take things far too serious? I'm confused of why he would want to be best friends with Nick anyway? Where are all his friends his own age? The only reason for this would be is if Sam knows (or at least has a gut instinct) about Nick being his dad. Not saying that Nick is his dad, but that's my prediction.
That night Owen has dinner with the girl that Pizza girl has setup for Owen to date, along with Phil and Pizza girl. Dinner goes incredibly well, but while Phil and Pizza girl are getting dessert ready it leaves time for Owen to talk to the woman. He happens to mention his kids and then Alison and goes off on a long tirade about what happened. By the time Phil and Pizza girl are back with dessert Owen's date has decided that she has to leave. Owen doesn't understand at first why she has to leave, but then realizes what he said. Nick and Bob have a chat. Nick asks if Bob ever hated him for leaving. Bob tells him that he never did, he just missed him. He said when Nick was a kid he warned him not to talk to strangers, but little did he know that years later he'd be the stranger. It seems clear that while in NYC Nick didn't do the best job of keeping in touch and his dad still feels a little hurt about that and obviously Nick is feeling guilty now. Bob then tells him that life isn't "then or when, life is this, here and now." Nick jokes that he must've got that off a fortune cookie. Bob says Nick's mom told him that, but laughs that she probably got it off a fortune cookie.
The next day Bob finally goes to the doctor after several days of back pain. He tells the doctor about Leslie wanting to go dancing and he needs his back to quit hurting. They start things out with an x-ray to figure out what's wrong. It seems nothing is wrong when Bob ends up back at home. The doc prescribed him some muscle relaxers and whatnot, but nothing serious. Bob tells Leslie that he wants to take her to the dance because they need to live "here and now" which takes her by surprise and she is thrilled. Aubrey's dad shows up at Best Friend Windows to talk to Nick. He asks if Nick has had any progress, but Nick tells him that Aubrey doesn't want to see him. Nick asks why she should believe him this time. He tells Nick that basically at his age you just never know what's going to happen. He's really not even old, I'd guess probably late 50's or something. By night Owen is on another date, this time with Phil's person. The woman is not the most attractive and she has a boring dull voice. Owen tries to make some small talk and this time is sure to not mention he has kids. The woman doesn't care what he has to say instead she skips to the end and asks if he wants to go back to her place and have sex. She's obviously just looking for a one night stand, whereas Owen is looking for a relationship. At Hannah's house Sam is on the phone with his supposed dad, Gavin, although as we found out in the last episode, Gavin is definitely not his dad. When Hannah realizes he's on the phone with Gavin you can tell by the look on her face that she knows she needs to make things right.
Owen is at Best Friend Windows tells Eddie about the night before and wondering what he should've done. He didn't take the girl back for sex, but he thinks he probably should have. Nick tries to talk Aubrey into reconciling with her father. She tells Nick that he is a bad guy, but Nick explains that some people called him a bad guy for up and leaving Knights Ridge too. It's night again, Ikey is having dinner with Hannah, Ray and Sam. After dinner Ikey talks to Hannah while she cleans up dinner. Ikey tells her that Eddie still hates him for sleeping with Alison and won't hire him back, which is why he is now working for Ray. Owen is out on his third date in three nights. The time he's with Eddie's person and she seems like a good fit for Owen. She's also been divorced and they're having good conversation about their past. Just then they walk into an ice cream shop and the woman spots someone in her yoga class. She pulls Owen over to say to hi. It turns out that someone is Alison who is on a date herself. Owen goes off about Alison bringing her date to the ice cream shop where they used to bring their kids. Alison's date tries to defend her so Owen goes to punch him, but when he brings his arm back he hits his date. She is on the ground and now has a black eye. And, there goes another date. 3 strikes and he's out. Later he heads to Sully's to clear his mind. He tells Sully that there is no woman that will make him feel like Alison did. Instead of drinking tonight he has Sully fire up the grill, he wants chicken wings. After who knows how many rounds of chicken wings, Owen starts choking. As he falls to the floor a woman comes to his rescue. After he spits out the chicken wings she asks if he's ok and all he can do is smile at her. Has Owen found his match?
As Bob is getting ready for the dance there is a knock at the door. He's surprised to find that it's the doctor. He has some bad news for Bob. He found some not so good things on the x-ray and he'd like to run some more tests on him and have him see an Ocologist. Bob is in disbelief, he realizes that the doc is suggesting he likely has cancer.
Hannah stops by Best Friend Windows to see Eddie who is working really late. She tells Eddie that he needs to forgive Ikey. He asks Hannah when this became her business. She tells him that Ikey made a mistake. Eddie is still wondering why this is suddenly her business. She tells him that he is being a hypocrite, as if he doesn't know what it's like to sleep with his best friend's girl. Eddie stands up and is pissed off. He tells Hannah that when Nick left she was a hot mess and a lot went down that summer, but she doesn't deal with any of it. He says he's asked her twice before to come clean, but she never does. He tells her that he's made peace with it a long time ago. He then tells her that she's a great mom, but there is one thing that she has never been and that is accountable. She is speechless at first, but then tells him that he's right. She says she's going to start being accountable. But, will she? She heads home and tells Ray that he can adopt Sam. Is this being accountable? She still has not told the real father, whoever that might be, about Sam.
Despite the bad news earlier in the night Bob takes Leslie to the dance. It's safe to assume that he didn't tell her about the doc's news. Nick takes Sam to get some ice cream and make peace with him. He tells Sam that he's never been good at sticking around, but he's there now and he wants to be there for him. He tells him that he can't make up for lost time, but he meant what he told him before. If he can't be a father to him then at least he can be a friend. At the end of the night they hug. Aubrey and her dad go out for drinks and try to make things right. The night goes smooth and it looks like things might be on the right track. Nick meets Aubrey and her dad just as they are leaving. Aubrey heads home, while Nick walks her dad back to his motel room. On the walk Nick notices a car is slowly following behind them. Aubrey's dad walks up to the car and tells the guys inside something and they drive off. When Nick asks him what that was about he tells Nick it was his past catching up with him, debts he has to pay. Nick asks if he's planning on leaving again and he tells him life intervenes. Once again Aubrey is going to see her dad disappear, except this time she'll probably also blame Nick.
That's the end. It's two weeks until the next episode. In the meantime, let's talk about what you guys think of Hannah being "accountable?" and do you think Aubrey is going to blame Nick for making her get close with her dad again only for him to leave as she had predicted? And, do you think Bob really has cancer? And, the big question... when is Hannah going to tell who the real father is? So many questions. Leave some comments with your thoughts so we can discuss.
