The Biggest Loser Couples - "Celebrity Chef Rocco DiSpirito Guest Stars"

Last week was a tough one for the balck team. Kelly, Paul and Brittany performed poorly on the scales and Maggie was trhe first one in the house without a partner. Jillian tried to comfort her team and spread the hugs. Jillian has to find out what went wrong, and suspects nutrition issues. Kelly has only been taking in 1,000 calories a day. Brittany has gone as low as 500 calories a day. Jillian says it's impreative that they eat, considering they're working out 6 hours a day. Jillian is ready to rally and vows it will not happen again.

The gang heads into the gym for their temptation challenge. They get into small booths and each one had chocolates on what looks like a game board. There are 100 chocolate-covered caramels in each booth. Each candy has 26 calories. The winner of the challenge gets to switch one player on their team (including themself) with a player on the other team. Whoever eats the most chocolates in 5 minutes wins. Mark immediately hit the candy, because he wanted to keep his team intact. Brittany deliberated for a few minutes and then just started stuffing her face. She said the experience was disgusting. Bernie also started grabbing a few candies. Time's up. Dan ate no candy, as did Maggie and Jackie. Bernie stuck candies all over his face, but didn't eat any of them. He just wanted to "get as close to the chocolate as possible." Let's just be thankful this challenge didn't involve corn dogs! Trent ate none, Brittany ate 15. Jay and Kelly ate no candy. Paul had 3 pieces of candy and Roger ate one piece. Mark ate 43 pieces of candy, effectively winning the challenge. Jackie's worried that she and Dan may get split up.

Mark makes his choice and decides not to make a change and keep the teams intact. Mark has been having a lot of pain in his shin and gets an MRI. He has a stress fracture. He can't run, walk on the treadmill or use the elliptical trainer. Dan, as the biggest oser of the week, takes the hike to claim his prize. This time, all 3 envelopes said family and ended up getting a surprise visit from his older brother, Joe. It was god for him to see how far he's come. Joe was surprised to hear that his mom was running 10Ks. Dan and Joe go into the gym to find Jackie and she was overwhelmed to see her son.

Jillian has a chat with her team and touts the benefits of milk. Bob sees Mark and gets the bad news about his leg. He also can't do any weights that involve his lower body. He can just use the pool and work his upper body. Mark is ready to find alternatives and continue to work towards losing weight. Dan tries on a pair of his brother's jeans and they fit. He went from a 42 to a 36 already. He's feeling that all of his hard work has been worth it. Joe leaves campus, in a sea of hugs and tears.

It's time for the challenge. The teams get geared up and are taken to the Art Institute of LA. It's a culinary school - the challenge isn't a physical one this time. Well, for one episode, it looks like "The Biggest Loser" is merging with "Top Chef." The judge tonight is chef Rocco DiSpirito. Paul is intimidated, as the most he's ever done is make hot dogs for Kelly when they were together (which could be one reason why she left. I'm just saying...) The teams have to cook a 3-course meal, working from recipes that Rocco created, but they have to make them healthier. The meals will be judged on taste and nutritious-ness. Roger feels confident because he has the "cookers" on his team. The winner of the challenge gets a meal prepared by Rocco and "something special" from home. They have 15 minutes to get the ingredients from Whole Foods. The teams head to the market and commence with the shopping. The blue team decided on scallops wrapped in turkey bacon for an appetizer, salmon on cucumber salad for the main course and "some kind of orange dessert." The blue team went with the vague "shrimp appetizer, beef main dish and a fruit and yogurt dessert." Mark was stressed about shopping in an unfamiliar store. Kelly was overwhelmed as well. Maggie and Paul were having trouble finding low-fat substitutes for their recipes. Bernie made a last-minute dash for cinnamon and the teams checked out.

The teams arrive back at the Art Institute and meet Rocco. The teams have to bring out their appetizer in 15 minutes, their mains 15 minutes later and dessert 10 minutes after that. It was chaos in the kitchen, but everyone had their eye on the prize. Rocco thought the blue team was "brave" for tackling the scallop dish. Maggie and Paul were working on turkey bacon-wrapped shrimp for their starter, and Paul was responsible for the "decorative aspects" of the dish. I'm scared. Mark says his brother makes good cereal and toast, but that's about it. Jay's having some trouble operating the microwave. The black team's shrimp could very possibly be raw, but Paul made a pretty palm tree for the plate's centerpiece, using a carrot and green peppers. Brittany and Bernie start on their entree. Paul and Maggie's shrimp scampi appetizer came in at 180 calories and Mark and Jay's scallop appetizer came in at 189 calories. Rocco tried both dishes and didn't let on how he felt about how they tasted. Brittany and Bernie prepared a filet mignon with a balsamic salad for their entree, while Jackie and Dan prepared their salmon and salad. Brittany and Bernie get their entree out in time, but Dan and Jackie are fiddling with their plate and almost didn't make it to the table in time.

Brittany and Bernie presented their dish. They added sweet potato mashed potatoes and added a tablespoon of bleu cheese on top of the filet. The meal came in at 350 calories. Dan and Jackie presented their thai salmon dish, which had 350 calories as well. Again, Roccogave both teams the old poker face. Rocco later said they were pretty good. Kelly flew solo for dessert while Trent and Roger worked to dispel the rumor that football players didn't know their way around a kitchen. Kelly's fruit and yogurt dessert was 257 calories and Roger and Trents did oranges marinated in sangria and clocked in at a crazy 638 calories. Rocco and Allison talk about the dishes. Rocco said there wasn't a bad tasting dish in the bunch and decided to look into the calorie counts and called out Trant and Roger on their dessert. Kelly also overdid it on the artificial sweetener. He loved both entrees as well. The blue team's whole meal was 1177 calories and the black team's was 787 - but that doesn't necessarily mean they've won.

Rocco declares the black team did win. Everyone was so happy - not only for the meal, but for the surprises their families have made for them. The team hits the kithcen onn campus for their dinner, but, as always, there's a catch. Rocco is going to supervise, but the team is actually going to make the meal. They did some garlic chicken and snap peas entree as well as beef over lentils and some pasta thingy. After their meal, the team gets their reward from home - videos. Brittany's mom looks just like her. Bernie gets a greeting from his girlfriend and his dog. Maggie sees her sister and mom. Paul gets greetings from his folks and Kelly also gets mom video - and a special message from her new boyfriend. Awkward. Paul's upset - he admits he still loves Kelly and was devastated to hear what her new beau said on the tape. Kelly didn't want Paul to mess up "her moment." They admit that they were glad to have gone through the weight-loss journey, but know that they could never be together as a couple ever again.

It's last chance workout time. Jillian pushes her team as always and Bob does the same. Jillian won't let her team disintegrate without a fight. Mark's worried that he wasn't able to work enough because of his injury. Bob informs Jackie that she's the oldest woman in the house. Gee, thanks for that, Bob! The teams again face the scale for this week's weigh-in. The blue team weighs in first:

Dan: 7 pounds
Jackie: 2 pounds
Roger: 8 pounds
Trent: 9 pounds
Jay: 5 pounds
Mark: 9 pounds
Blue team total: 40 pounds/2.48%

The black team needs to have dropped more than 28 pounds to beat elimination.
Kelly: 7 pounds
Paul: 12 pounds
Maggie: 5 pounds
Brittany: 10 pounds (the black team won the weigh in with her loss)
Bernie: 13 pounds

The blue team have one hour to decide who they are going to send home. Mark lost the most on the team, so he's safe. Jackie asked Trent if he'd hate the team if they voted him out. Trent, who was majorly homesick, didn't seem to mind. He can still win the $100K if he lost the most weight out of those sent home at the finale. Jackie asked Jay and Mark to also vote for Trent, but she didn't really trust them. At elimination, Jackie and Dan both picked Trent. Trent voted for Jackie. Roger, not wanting to lose his teammate, also picked Jackie. Jay, playing the game, picked Jackie and brother Mark also followed suit. Jackie was pissed. Dan's upset that he's now on his own and also feels betrayed by Jay and Mark. Since going on the Biggest Loser campus, Jackie has lost 70 pounds and loves to cook healthy. Next week, a weigh-in that makes "Biggest Loser" history!

Brittany Totally Fell in Love with Rocco

Man, what a great episode! Unfortunately, because it was Super Tuesday, I kept getting pre-empted on my TiVo and missed the crucial Paul and Kelly moment. Poor Paul.

Brittany was so adorable--she was SO making eyes at Rocco.

I have to admit that I wasn't rooting for Jackie to get kicked out until she started being to manipulative right at the very end.

Also, I LOVE Jillian and how the black team is back on top.

Great recap and great show!
