American Idol: Season Seven Top 8 Guys

Tonight it's "most embarassing moment" and eighties song night. For many of these contestants, those are the same things.

Luke Menard was dressed up as a ballerina by his sister. It couldn't be worse than choosing to sing Wham's "Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go!" He can sing, but he's just so...a capella. Hot cheese, but cheese nonetheless. Simon thought it was weak and girly.

David Archuleta once lost his voice mid-performance, and his mom had to come finish the song for him. Aw. He sings Phil Collins' "Another Day in Paradise." He starts out at the piano, which is very heartfelt. After the first verse and chorus, he gets up and just sings. A few wonky notes here and there, but overall, still great. Paula likes it that he messed up a tiny bit, because it proves he's human. Simon wants him to lighten up.

Denise Richards in the crowd at Idol...gee I wonder if Ryan (who's producing her reality show) was behind that.

Danny Noriega's worst moment was when his friend tripped him at the movie theatre. It was "TMTH." He does a super-terrible syncopated version of "Tainted Love." It's all weird. Simon thinks it was horrible and useless. I kind of have to agree.

David Hernandez
was doing a photo shoot, and he had a booger in his nose. Was this a...naked photo shoot? He sings "It's All Coming Back to Me." God, he sings like a stripper, doesn't he? It's good, but it's Celine. I just can't go for that. Simon says it wasn't as good as last week, but he should be through.

Michael Johns' most embarrassing moment was getting beat up as a rugby mascot. He goes with "Don't You Forget About Me." GREAT song choice, just based on people's heartstrings. I mean, what unfeeling bastard could hate this song? His voice sounds much better this week, and while the performance is jumpy, it's not quite as insane. Simon likes it, but think he hasn't quite connected to the right song yet.

David Cook does a rock version of "Hello." Brill. Iant. He sounds really good too. Love it. Randy thinks it's Emo Richie! Simon thinks it was brave and it...paid off!

Jason Castro once pulled a nasty dreadlock out of his head on a date. He sings "Hallelujah," which knows no decade. He manages to get out from behind the guitar. I like his rendition, but when he gets to the high notes, he rushes. And then he blows the high part. Plus...am I watching the season finale of Idol? This song is for heartwrenching season finale montages. Paula thinks he was very vulnerable. Simon loves it. Really? Jason made a face while singing. He knows he messed up.

All the props for Jeff Buckley though, very nice.

Chikezie used to use the girls' bathroom in high school. He sings "All the Woman I Need." A few missteps, but I really like his voice and he's getting better with confidence. Nice falsetto moment. Simon hates it. Seems a bit harsh to me after the Castro praise.

Thursday will be the end of the road for Luke, I'd think. Joining him is any one of Danny, David Hernandez or Jason Castro.
