October Road - The Fine Art of Surfacing (Episode 18 - Part One)

October RoadOctober Road

It seems like October Road just got started, but this is the two hour season ender folks. It looks like we'll most likely be getting another season, but it won't be until the Fall. So, enjoy this one every minute, and believe me you won't want to miss a minute of this episode! Here's part one of the two hour season finale...

Life is all good for Eddie and Janet. They wake up in bed next to each other with smiles on their faces, enjoy breakfast together, and Janet makes Eddie a brown bag lunch before he heads off to work. Of course, you know when things are this good the only way for things to go is down. Once at work Janet gets the bad news of the week; Eddie's ex-girlfriend Rory Dunlap (played by Stacy Keibler -- Geoff Stults' real life girlfriend) is back in town. Rooser seems to get joy out of breaking the news to Janet.

Nick gets some good news from his agent. U2 wants Nick to go on tour with them for the next five months. What will he do on tour with them? His "meditations" will go next to photographs by Sofia Coppola in a tour book. Anyone else confused or is it just me? Since when did Nick have "meditations"? And, wouldn't they just have him sign an agreement to let them use them in the book? Why would he be needed on tour? I think the real answer to all my questions is the writers just needed some reason for Nick to maybe leave Knights Ridge, and they wanted to mention U2.

Pizza Girl is apparently getting to be best friends with Hannah. Much like the U2 thing, I have no idea where or how this came to be but we'll go with it nonetheless. Anyway, so Pizza Girl and Hannah are discussing where she'll have her wedding and all that good stuff. But, the conversation is interrupted when there is a knock at the door. It's the police and they are there to arrest Hannah for her assault on Ray's ex-wife. Remember she punched her at the yard sale a few weeks ago? Can they even arrest her on this when it's been this long and his ex-wife clearly has no injuries? Come on. At the police station Hannah tries to call Ray but of course he left his cell phone in the truck and doesn't hear the call. Pizza Girl and Sam are able to stay by Hannah's side at the station so it's not like she's behind bars or anything.

Bob gets horrible news about his medical tests. He has bone marrow cancer. Fortunately, they caught the cancer early so it's likely he'll be able to fight it and overcome it, but he will have to undergo chemotherapy.

Rooster is still going on and on about Eddie's ex, Rory. The reason she's back in town is because her husband just dumped her for his secretary. The catch is that his secretary was a "dude," as Rooster says. Yeah, he left her for another guy. Janet is getting more and more upset the more Rooster keeps yapping about Rory. Ikey is still working for Ray doing construction and things seem to be going well so far. Ray even gives Ikey a bonus on his check for doing such good work. But, things aren't as good as they may seem and you'll find out why soon.

Nick and Eddie get a surprise visitor at Best Friend Windows. Could it be Hannah? Aubrey? Nope, it's the latest hot chick to join the show... Rory. Eddie and Nick are speechless when she walks in. She tells Eddie about her husband leaving her for her male secretary. She says she should've caught on to their affair when they celebrated "Secretary's Day" in the Bahamas together. Just then Eddie gets a call and it's Janet. He quickly ends the call telling her that he's busy. Later Eddie and Rory have a sit down talk about what they've been upto. She asks about his love life and he doesn't even mention Janet, but doesn't say he's single either. Later, Eddie tells Owen and Phil about his chat with Rory. Owen tells him that nothing good can come out of talking to Rory, afterall she did break his heart years ago. Eddie goes off on him about holding grudges and how he won't hold a grudge against Rory like Owen does against Ikey and then storms off.

While Eddie and Rory have their talk Nick went to grab a coffee. On his walk back to the store he gets a call from his agent again. Just as he answers the phone Pizza Girl and Sam come walking along and tell Nick about Hannah being arrested and her needing to be bailed out -- bail is $1000. Nick's next surprise is his agent rolls up in a limo. His agent lends him the money and they head to the station to bail Hannah out. After Nick bails Hannah out Ray shows up and is pissed that Nick got to be the good guy. He asks Nick why he can't just disappear and then gives him back the bail money.

Rory shows up at Sully's and Rooster makes Janet talk to her. Rory mentions that she stopped by and talked to Eddie. She says that Eddie seemed sad. Janet doesn't mention that they're dating. Before Rory leaves she tells Janet that she looks beautiful. Later Eddie comes in for a cup of coffee and a chat with Janet. He doesn't mention his visit with Rory and either does she.

Ikey overhears a conversation among the guys while at work. They're talking about Rory being back in town and how one of them needs to get with Eddie's ex. And, they mention how they're going to teach Eddie a lesson tonight. Janet goes to Hannah for advice about Rory and Eddie. Hannah tries to tell her that people move on, just as she has moved on from Nick and is going to marry Ray. Janet isn't so convinced that Eddie or Rory have moved on though. Ray meets with his ex-wife hoping she'll drop the assault charges against Hannah. She tells him that if he marries Hannah she's going to petition for full custody of the kids. Rory drops by Eddie's house with food and beer which of course he can't decline. Out of the blue they lean in and kiss. At the same time as them kissing Janet drives by and sees the whole thing, except how it ends. After the kiss Eddie and Rory both realize that their love was just a high school thing and they should leave it in the past. Rory then decides to leave, but before she goes Eddie tells her that he's dating someone.

Bob breaks the news of his cancer to Leslie. He tells her that he's not going to tell the boys at the moment, but she urges him to let them know. Later at dinner Nick's cell rings and it's Ikey, but Nick ignores the call because Bob is pissed about his phone ringing during dinner. After this Bob asks for him to pass the whipped cream and casually slips into the conversation that he has cancer. Nick starts to freak out a little, but Bob says he just wants them to finish enjoying their pie, and that's what they do.

Janet calls Rooster upset about seeing Eddie and Rory kissing. He brings some old alcohol that he's been saving for who knows how long. Janet starts doing shots of the mystery stuff. Rooster starts telling Janet how good she always makes him feel and how he wishes that he could make her feel the same way. Janet starts kissing Rooster and before long this leads to the two in bed. Yeah... Janet and Rooster having sex... not quite the image I wanted to have, how bout you? While Janet is busy getting busy with Rooster, Eddie is getting his ass kicked. After Rory left Eddie headed to Best Friend Windows to get some work done and as he was leaving the three guys that work for Ray, including the one Eddie punched earlier this season, pay Eddie a visit. Eddie tries to defend himself but going up against three guys isn't an easy task and before long he ends up on the ground being punched and kicked. Before the guys can kill him Ikey comes to the rescue and the guys run off.

Part one of this two-hour finale ends with Nick at the bar with his agent and Aubrey. He confirms with the agent that he'll do the tour, which will send him away from Knights Ridge for the next five months. Will he really leave? Find out in my next recap with part two.
