The Biggest Loser Couples - "Last 5 Contestants Get Surprise Trip to Australia" (Episode 514)

Allison tells the final 5 that they will be joining the global "Biggest Loser" community and are jetting off to Australia. Lucky! Bob and Jillian are also there to kick their butts, down-under style. Mark's excited, but doesn't want to forget that they're still playing the game. Ali is trying to form an alliance with Jay and Mark, so that she and Kelly can make the final 4. Things aren't looking good for Roger. Ali and Jay look on a travel website to check out the hotel gym. Mark wants to make sure he gets his meal plans and his workouts in (the last 2 things I thought about when I went to Australia). Mark even made snack packs for everyone for the plane. Aww...how sweet.

The gang arrive in Australia. We find out that Bob and Jillian have coached the contestants on "Biggest Loser Australia" and Bob tells us that Australia is the second fattest continient, behind North America, of course. Allison tells the coaches that there was an elimination, and Bob's anxious to see who's missing. He's so sad that Dan didn't make the trek. Jillian was relieved to see that both of her girls survived. Ali thinks that she's a big threat to the boys. Spoil sport Allison reminds the gang that there's going to be an elimination at the end of the week.

Before the contestants head out for some sightseeing, they're treated to a traditional, aboriginal ceremony, led by someone named Uncle Max. It's an aboriginal smoking ceremony and much to my dismay it doesn't involve pot. It's supposed to bring good luck and energy. Ali gets all teary and thanks "Uncle Max", who has no idea what she's saying. Everyone heads to the gym for the obligatory torture sessions with Bob and Jillian. The Australian Biggest Loser house is way nicer than the US eqiuvalent - with chandeliers, hot tubs and tennis courts. The workouts, however, are crazy tough, with the trainers making up for the day everyone lost in travel. Roger understands that he's a threat and knows if he falls below the yellow line with Jay or Mark, he's sunk. Ali's having major body issues and refuses to take her sweat-drenched shirt off. Kelly likes being the underdog.

After the workout, the gang go dancing and out to dinner. Ali is obsessed with her arms. Roger said Ali was "smoking". Bob and Jillian taught the gang how to eat out while on vacation. They then went to a dance club. It was a welcome, stress-free evening for everyone.

The next day, Jillian and Bob took the gang to local farmer's markets to show them healthier eating options while on holiday. The boys get seafood and the gals stock up on fresh fruit. Mark tries to grab a huge Aussie lobster out of the tank. Jillian tells oyster-phobe Kelly that she is going to try an oyster. That didn't work out too well. Kelly later gets a knock at the door, it's Adro, the season one winner of BL Australia. He came to give the gang a pep talk and show them around Sydney. Adro told the gang about how he conquered his fear of heights with Bob by jumping off a 65 foot high platform. he said that the head and the heart are as important as the weight loss with the transformations. Ali took from it that the finale is only the beginning of their new lives. He then tells them that they're having their challenge the next day and that she is going to meet them at the top of the Sydney Harbor Bridge. Mark has a fear of bridges, so Ali's hoping she has a chance to win a challenge.

The next morning, the gang assemble at the Sydney Bridge Climb HQ and Jay's a little hesitant after chickening out at the Stratosphere in Vegas. Roger was trying to psych Mark out. Mark didn't want to do it, but everyone said they weren't going without him, so he reluctantly agreed to climb with them. Of course, it was an amazing experience, but Mark got progressively scared as they made their way to the top of the 440ft bridge. They all finally made it to the top and met up with Allison, who tells them about the challenge. The winner gets a ride on a seaplane and a brunch, and the winner gets to take one person with them. Allison says this is the hardest challenge they've ever come up with. It starts on a jet boat. When given the go, they have to jump out of the boat and swim 300 meters. After they hit land, they have to race up steps and grab bikes, riding them to botanical gardens and then racing on foot to a 44-story building that they have to race up to the finish. I'm exhausted just typing that.

It's time for the Biggest Loser's 1st ever Australian triathalon. Oh, I thought they were going to jump from the jet boat while it was moving. Boo! Ali, Roger and Mark seemed confident, Jay and Kelly, not so much. Mark was worried Ali, who's a strong swimmer was going to get a substantial lead. Roger was having a hard time with the swim. Ali made it to shore first, with Mark right on her tail. They had to run a quarter-mile before hitting the stairs. Ali also got to her bike first. Roger's still lagging behind. Mark overtook Ali on a curved road and was in first place. Mark starts the run before Ali, but she feels as long as she can keep an eye on Mark, she thinks she can beat him. She feels like it's just her and Mark in the competition. Roger is nowhere to be found. Mark gets to the building first, followed by Ali, who is starting to doubt that she can get up the 44 flights of stairs. Roger finally finished the bike leg and feels he can catch up with Kelly, who's way ahead of him. Kelly starts to wane, but gets some encouragement from a trainer, who happened to be working out in the gardens. Roger finally passed Kelly on the 13th floor of the building. ALi feels like she's going to die. Mark gets to the top flight of steps and waits for Ali before crossing the finish line. Ali actually carried him across the line. Mark was glad he shared the victory "in a fun way" with Ali. Jay came in third, followed by Roger. The gang go back into the stairwell to cheer Kelly to the finish line. So, Ali and Mark tied to win the triathalon. Mark feels so much joy and starts to cry. Ali and Mark also both get to call home. Ali wants to call her gramma and Mark can't wait to speak with his wife.

It's seaplane time and Ali and Mark take to the skies for an airborne view of Sydney. They then went for brunch at a gorgeous restaurant overlooking the beach. mark thinks Ali is psychotic, just like him. Ali thinks that she could actually beat Mark. I hope she does because 1. I don't like Mark a whole lot and 2. I'd love to see a female Biggest Loser. Mark calls his wife and tells him he's upset that she's not there with him. She says she's upset as well. I'm sure she is - I'd be crazy upset. Ali talked to her Mom, Bette Sue and grandma.

Even in Australia, there's a last chance workout for the gang. Mark anticipates a particularly tough workout from Bob, as he fell below the line last week. Roger says Bob's yoga workout is unexpectedly tough. Jillian gives her girls a day-long torture session. Bob makes a fart joke. Didn't think he had it in him. Jillian wants her ladies to be sweating and miserable, which is a dramatic contrast from Bob's new-agey workout. At the weigh-in, Ali is a little worried, because the travel and change has left her feeling a little sick. Roger again reiterates that if he falls below the line with one of the brothers, he's screwed. Bob is dreading the weigh-in. Here's what the down under scale says:

Jay - +1 pound/-0.50%
Ali - 3 pounds/2.01%
Roger - 2 pounds/0.85%
Kelly - 1 pound/0.52%
Mark - +1 pound/-0.55%

So, it's Jay versus Mark for elimination. Hmmm. No one really knows who to send home. Jay doesn't want Mark to fall on his sword again, like he did to save his team before. Jay tells everyone to vote him off. Lots of tears. Mark wanted to protect his brother from the pain of elimination, but respected the fact that he wanted to be the sacrificial lamb this time around. So, in the least suspenseful elimination ever, Jay is sent home. And the waterworks continue. Allison says the remaining 4 are heading back to campus for their hardest week - without their trainers. Yikes. Meanwhile, Jay's wife is so happy that a "hottie" came home to her. Jay has also reached the 100 pounds lost milestone and organized a charity 10K in his hometown. One more show to the finale!

The Biggest Loser Couples

I have a close friend who wanted to take part in this contest with his wife, but there where plenty of people who were totally against this and in the end he gave up the idea of that Australia trip. Well, you never know what might come up next. Anyway, don't rely on something like this :)
