Chris needs $200 for Run-D.M.C. tickets. He applies and gets Mr. Omar's BFD scholarship -- that's Black Funeral Directors, y'all. The scholarship is worth $250, but isn't payable, so Chris still has to borrow $100 to pay for his ticket (with Greg paying for the other). While Chris thinks he is on his way to getting paid, Mr. Omar sees Chris as underpaid child labor. Also, it appears that other funeral directors are just as popular with the ladies (read: widows) as he is.
It's not about servicing the dead. It's about comforting the living.
When Chris is just about home free, a grieving Miss Hattie arrives at Mr. Omar's, in need of service. With Mr. Omar missing, Chris is left to keep Miss Hattie company as she reminisces about her dead husband. Yes, she gets Chris to join her in the electric slide. Though Chris missed getting to where he wanted to be, he was where he needed to be, and was able to provide comfort when asked. He still cringes when Greg tells him all about the Run-D.M.C./Aerosmith throwdown on the concert. As bad as that is, it's even worse when Mr. Omar finally pays him -- with a $250 voucher for books.
Elsewhere in the Rock household, Rochelle injures her right arm just as she's about to give Drew a whupping. The nurse and doctor who attend to her at the hospital admonish her -- not for the punishment, but for not stretching and keeping in good shape for such a strenuous activity. After all, a good whupping can make the difference between Bill Gates and Bobby Brown, so really, it's in her children's own interest that Rochelle stretch the next time she kicks their asses. Rochelle decides to rest for a few extra days, so Julius and the kids can pick up the slack around the house. Too bad Drew and Tanya need her to tell them how to do everything, with their entreaties annoying her back into action. Those kids had better look out.
