Last week ended with the revelation that Dan only has weeks to live. This week we begin with Dan standing in the cemetary staring at Keith's grave and the site of his own future grave site. Dan's grave stone reads: "Loving Husband, Brother, and Father." Could there be anything further from the truth?
Jamie tells Nathan that she wishes Dan had come to his birthday party and that he misses him. Nathan tells Jamie that the jersey he got for his birthday was actually from Dan. Jamie tells Haley who is not happy about that. Nathan and Haley talk privately and he tells her that Dan is dying, but he still insists that Dan will not be spending any time with Jamie.
Brooke seems to be getting more comfortable in the mommy role and Angie seems to be getting more comfortable with her. Luke stops by to accompany Brooke to the hospital for Angie's appointment, but apparently the appointment isn't until 7pm, not 7am. While Luke is there Peyton comes out of her room raving about finally getting a full night sleep and she's only wearing a shirt and underwear. She's a slight bit embarrassed to see Luke there. After a few awkward moments he leaves. Later after getting dressed Peyton helps Brooke feed Angie and apologizes for not helping more lately. She's been extremely busy getting the recording studio ready and whatnot. Speaking of the studio, Peyton has to head there because today is the first day Haley will be recording!
Luke is now at basketball practice and drilling the team on how they need to work harder. Quentin walks away and says he's done, he tells Luke that there's nothing there for him. After practice Luke is back in his office when Haley visits him. She tells him that Dan is dying. Luke is sure that Dan is lying about his condition, but he says sarcastically that if it is true it couldn't be happening to a nicer guy.
Mouth is working away editing sports clips at work when his boss interrupts. He tells him that the regular sports guy is sick and he'd like to have Mouth step in and take over three of the sports slots. He also tells Mouth that he heard about his Omaha offer and thinks he made the right decision staying in Tree Hill.
Nathan is working on his b-ball skills at the riverside court. Dan drops in to offer some of his expert advice on what Nathan is doing wrong. Nathan tells him to quit following him and stop trying to see Jamie. Dan tells him not to hate him for being proud of his accomplishments and not to live a life of regret. Nathan throws the basketball at him as hard as he can and yells at him, "Stop it! You don't get it do you? Just stop it, all of it. Leave my family alone!"
Peyton and Haley are at the new "Red Bedroom Studios." Haley doesn't really seem to be that excited about it. Peyton asks what is going on with her. Haley tells Peyton about Dan and how Jamie really wants to know Dan. Peyton doesn't know what to say. Later, before Haley starts laying tracks she tells Peyton that she told Luke not to marry Lindsay because after reading his new novel she knew he was still in love with her (Peyton). Peyton says that it's all the past though, but Haley raises a good point. She asks Peyton how she'd feel if it were the other way around.
Luke visits Dan and tells him that he doesn't buy that anything is wrong with his heart. Dan tells him his cardiologist's name and tells Luke to call him himself. Dan says he'll be dead within six months without a transplant. Luke tells him that he's dead to so many people already, and he wonders what it really matters.
Brooke and Luke take Angie to meet with her doctor. At the appointment Brooke learns exactly what the doctors will be doing to repair Angie's heart. She has multiple holes in her heart which they will have to repair or else she will die within a year or two. In order to repair the holes they must stop her heart for around two hours. During this time a machine will keep things running. Brooke is clearly freaking out inside, so Luke helps out by asking the serious questions and helping Brooke understand more about the situation. At the end of the visit the doctor asks if they have any more questions, Luke asks if he knows Dan's cardiologist, Dr. Thornton. Unfortunately, we don't find out whether he does or not. We cut to Brooke and Luke back home. Brooke is putting Angie to bed, she asks Luke what she would tell the parents if Angie were to die as a result of the surgery. She doesn't know what she was thinking, she isn't sure if she'll be able to handle this. He tells Angie that she's giving Angie the opportunity for a full, healthy life that she would never have without the surgery. She thanks Luke for being there for her and Angie, he thanks her for letting him.
Nathan heads back to the riverside court, instead of Dan being there this time it's Quentin. He tells Nathan that he quit the Ravens. Nathan tells him that he needs to reinvent himself, find new ways to play the game. Quentin says it's too late and then tries to blame his injury on Nathan saying that he punched the guy (K-Fed's character) for Nathan. Nathan says he has thrown a lot of punches in his life and they've all been selfish, he tells Quentin that he punched the guy for himself and to deal with it.
Mouth arrives home from work to find Milli playing video games, yelling at 13 years olds through the microphone. She really has changed. Mouth tells her about his great day at work, she tells him how proud she is of him and they hug.
Jamie asks Haley if she can take him to go thank Dan for his birthday present. Haley says no, but tells him that he can write Dan a thank-you note and she'll make sure he gets it. Jamie thinks that's a great idea and gives her a high-five. The next morning, Jamie and Skills are playing video games, Jamie is winning. Lucas breaks the news to Haley and Nathan that Dan is telling the truth, he really is dying and only has six months to live without a transplant.
Mouth completely bombs his first live sports broadcast flubbing each and every line. Brooke and Milli watch in disappointment. Brooke tells Milli that Mouth will need her at the station, so she'll drop her off there on the way to the big Macy's meeting.
Luke, Skills, Nathan and Jamie are working on plans for how the Ravens are going to win games without Quentin. Skills suggests a strategy that Jamie was using earlier while playing video games. What if all they do is focus on three point shots? Luke thinks the idea could just work. And, Nathan suggests that Quentin would be great for defense which would actually give him something great to do. This could actually work.
You'll never guess where we find Peyton next. She's in New York at Lindsay's office. She tells Lindsay that they need to talk. Lindsay asks what she wants, Peyton says that she's there for Lucas and for her. He tells her that although he may have written a fiction book about a Comet, he obviously loves Lindsay in real life. Lindsay asks Peyton if she's read the book which Peyton hasn't. Lindsay hands her the book and tells her to go home and read it.
Quentin comes to the school gym to meet with Nathan. Jamie and Quentin are shooting some hoops. Nathan tells Quentin that he's not quitting the Ravens, but before he can tell him why Nathan spots Dan coming in and has to go deal with him first. Nathan tells Dan he'll give him five minutes but then they're done. Dan tells Nathan that while he was in prison he tried to kill himself but that the rope broke. He took that as a sign that he had more to do on this Earth and that he needs to make things right. He needs to have that peace before he dies. He asks Nathan to please give him that chance. He tells Nathan not to deny a dying man his last wish.
Just before Mouth goes to do his second broadcast Milli arrives and offers him advice. She reminds him of a quote he gave her a long time ago. Mouth goes on to nail the broadcast. Meanwhile, things aren't going so smooth for Brooke at the Macy's meeting. She arrives out of breath carrying Angie around in her car seat. Angie starts crying so Brooke has to step out for a moment before things can even get started. Outside the conference room Brooke has a talk with Angie. She tells Angie that they're in this together and they need to kick some presentation butt. Brooke and Angie head back into the meeting and do just that, they kick butt. Brooke unveils a new line as part of her clothing empire. "Baby Brooke," inspired by her new mommy status, will feature stylish, edgy clothes for babies and toddlers.
Quentin apologizes to Skills for the things he said before. Skills tells Quentin that he and Luke will always have his best interests in mind and that he needs to trust them. Quentin agrees. Quentin asks for his spot back on the time. Skills tells him that he accepts the apology. Luke and Nathan address the Ravens team and tell them of the new three point strategy, including Quentin as the new point guard. Luke says if they are going out, they'll go out together guns blazing. The team starts practicing on the new strategy and so far it looks to be going amazingly well. Quentin thanks Nathan for believing in him and encouraging him to not give up. Quentin then encourages Nathan to not give up either and asks if they can practice together a few days a week, Nathan agrees.
After Mouth nailed his broadcast things get even better. He invites Milli to come upto the news desk and pretend she's the anchor and read the teleprompter. The teleprompter has a message from Mouth thanking Milli for her support and then says "I love you, Marvin." She looks over at him, and he tells her that he loves her, and she says she loves him too, and they kiss.
Jamie finishes his card for Dan thanking him for his birthday present and for saving him from nanny Carrie. It's a really nice card. Haley shows it to Nathan and tells him that she understands if he needs closure with Dan. But, then later she tosses Jamie's card in the garbage. Nathan goes to see Dan and tells him that he'll admit that he's been right about a lot of things and that over the years he's learned that family is most important, but Dan isn't part of his family anymore. He tells Dan that he's sorry he's dying, but that he can't ever forgive him, not now or ever. Dan doesn't understand how he could just make that decision, Nathan tells him that he's the one that made that decision when he pulled the trigger.
Luke is writing again when he sees that Lindsay is online. He invites her to a video chat, but she declines the invite. Brooke puts Angie to bed and asks her to please give her sign that she's doing things right, and just then Angie gives her big smiles, Brooke cries.
That's the end for this week. Next week it looks like Peyton finishes reading Luke's book and realizes that he really is still in love with her. It appears that they're going to hook up for the entire episode. I'm sort of back to rooting for Lindsay. I hope Luke and Peyton finally get this whole thing through their system and then he can get Lindsay back. Who are you rooting for - Peyton or Lindsay?
