Finally the daring show that CBS has been talking about since last fall finally makes its debut. "Swingtown," the one hour drama of the swingers' lifestyle, in a 1970's suburb of Chicago was thought to be too risky for CBS to air. Maybe I'm a little hussy but I didn't see a problem with the shows content at all. They didn't show any more than a normal daytime soap opera would have.
It's July 2, 1976.
We first meet Tom Decker, played by Grant Show. Sorry but Grant will always be Jake Hanson from "Melrose Place" to me. The only thing that allowed me to separate Grant from "Melrose Place" was his amazing mustache. Seriously, can anyone say "Boogie Nights?"
Tom is making his announcement in the cock pit, seriously I'm not making this up, that they will be arriving soon at the gate. That's right Tom is a pilot. It seems that a flight attendant is giving him a little pleasure down south but we quickly find it that it is one of the older flight attendants, cleaning the coffee stain that a younger flight attendant, Tammy caused.
Tammy is embarrassed and feels horrible. She thinks that Tom's wife is going to hate her for ruining his shirt. Tom insists that his wife is going to LOVE her......
We then flash to Tom's house with his wife Trina, Tammy and himself in bed, getting it on and a picture of Trina in her flight attendant uniform and Tom in his pilots. Gee I wonder where the two of them met and if they started their own mile high club.......
Next door, Bruce and Susan Miller are moving into their new house. Trina seems to be very interested in the new neighbors.
Susan and her old neighbor/best friend Janet Thompson are at the grocery store grabbing some things for Janet's block party of the summer. Susan and Janet's sons, who are best friends, are also along for the ride. Janet discusses with Susan the fact that she is moving a couple blocks away. For only being a couple blocks Janet sure seems to feel threatened by this change.
We then are introduced to Samantha Saxton who is stealing cans of food from Susan and Bruce's new garage. Samantha stops to touch a ring that is hanging from her necklace. Susan and Bruce's new neighbor catches her stealing again and yells at her to run to the store for her.
At Summer School, Laurie the daughter of Susan and Bruce is finishing up a paper before the 4th of July weekend. Laurie looks A LOT like Denise Richards. As Laurie turns in her paper she stops to make small talk with her teacher. MMMM wonder if she has a crush on him.
Laurie leaves school to find her boyfriend Logan waiting for her outside. He's stoned. Laurie seems to be a little upset but takes a hit herself.
Tom comes home from dropping Tammy off. Trina seems to be a little upset and asks him if they can keep it in their own age bracket for awhile. Tom agrees. After all, this T-N-T duo has to keep the show running.
As Susan is finishing up packing she stares at her wedding picture. She asks Bruce if she seems unsatisfied but Bruce quickly explains that they already have everything they want.
Samantha takes the food she stole and drops it off outside her mom's apartment and quickly runs away. I hope this girl's storyline gets more interesting because right now I just wish they would write her out of the show.
B.J Miller and Rick Thompson, the sons of Susan and Janet are looking at a penthouse in Rick's room. Rick mentions that he almost went all the way with a girl named Betsy. Rick's dad, Roger Thompson catches them with the Penthouse and suggests they make sure Janet doesn't see this or she will have a coronary. Looks like Roger isn't as uptight as his wife Janet.....
Samantha goes back to Susan and Bruce's new house in search of the ring necklace she seemed to have lost. Bruce and Susan arrive ready to break in the new house. As they decide which room to first have sex in Susan becomes overwhelmed and tells Bruce to slowdown. After all, when she finally is ready to join him it isn't always easy to keep him there. Bruce gets fustrated by this and is about to confront Susan when the door bell rings.
Tom and Trina are outside with a bottle of Don Perion to welcome them to the neighborhood. Seriously, does Tom make porno's on the side too? After all, he does have the perfect mustache for it. Also, Trina doesn't seem to work anymore and Tom is only a pilot. They have a beautiful house, pool and a Porsche. Then they show up with a 100 dollar bottle of wine? They have to be doing something on the side.
Tom and Trina stopped by to invite Susan and Bruce to their party tomorrow night. Trina tells them they might want to get a babysitter for their children because this party will be going all night.
Later on, Trina tells Tom that she is interested in their new neighbors. Tom laughs saying that they are straight and narrow but Trina explains that safe and easy is boring.......
Janet's block party is starting. As the Miller's are finishing up their packing Laurie's boyfriend Logan calls on the phone. Laurie tells Logan she can't answer his questions because her mom is in the room listening.
When Laurie gets off the phone Susan wants to know if she has having sex. Laurie brings up the point that she realizes Susan was the same age as Laurie when she first got knocked up but she's smarter than that.
Bruce walks in to gather the rest of the stuff. Before they leave Susan wants to check the house one more time. She walks into her room and starts to cry.
As they are getting ready to leave Janet shows up with a goodbye present for Susan. Janet starts to cry. Susan checks out Roger in the rear view mirror as they drive away. MMM wonder if Susan and Roger will be getting it on.
At the new house, B.J finds Samantha's ring. Below his window he sees Samantha looking for it in the bushes. She sees him and runs away.
Susan calls Janet on the phone. Janet asks what she is doing for dinner but Susan honestly has no idea. Bruce comes over with the Don Perion and Susan lets Janet go. Bruce thinks that they should make an appearance at the neighbor's party. Susan is worried about B.J being alone but B.J is going to the movies with Rick so now they are free to let loose.
Laurie is at the beach when she runs into her Summer School teacher. As they are talking Logan shows up.
Susan walks down the stairs in a dress and Bruce can't believe how beautiful she looks. As they are about to go to the party Janet and Roger show up with dinner. Janet seems upset that they are going to the neighbor's party but agrees to tag along when Susan invites them.
The four arrive at the party and Trina takes Susan on a tour of the house. Janet decides not to go along.
At the beach Laurie and Logan are watching the fireworks. They start to fight and Laurie runs away; takes her clothes off and jumps into the water.
As Trina is showing Susan around they run into one of their neighbors who is looking for coke. Trina explains to Susan that she's harmless but miserable and should have an open marriage like Tom and Trina do. Trina tries to persuade Susan by telling her how much it has spiced up her marriage life.
Susan who seems to not be happy with her life lately looks a little interested. Trina gives her some kind of happy pill to loosen up a bit. Susan tells Trina that she married Bruce right out of High School and he would never be into that. After Trina walks away Susan decides to take the pill.
At the movies, Rick is confronted by the girl Betsy he was spreading rumors about. She beats him up for telling his friends he was doing it with her. B.J tries to help but Rick just tells him to go away.
At the party Janet is looking around for Susan. Trina tells her that Susan was on her way to the basement. Susan however is outside by the pool.
Bruce and Susan start talking about swinging. Bruce says it's crazy right?
Janet walks downstairs to the basement to find an orgy going on. She freaks out when she is invited to join and runs over to Susan, telling her they are leaving. Bruce and Susan decide to stay.
When B.J gets back from the moves Samantha is waiting for him. She wants her ring back. B.J asks if it's a wedding ring. Samantha tells him it's her Dad's and she keeps it to remind herself not to do something stupid like get married. She climbs out his window.
Back at the party, everyone has left except Trina, Tom, Susan and Bruce. They all slowly start touching each other and Trina suggests they move it to somewhere a little quieter.
At the Thompson's house Janet is cleaning like a mad woman. Roger asks her to come to bed when Rick shows up with his bloody face.
July 4, 1976
Trina wakes up to take a swim in the pool while Tom is making some sort of banana, hash smoothie.
The Thompson's are sitting down to a regular breakfast of eggs and sausage.
Susan and Bruce are finishing up having amazing sex, finally..........
Looks like it might turn out to be a good 4th of July after all.........

Not Bad
Not Bad, I watched it. Seems like a revamped "adult" version of "That 70's How". I'll give it a chance.
