I got my wish, and a Bollywood number by Nakul opens this results
show. It's fun, and the kids all look hot, but it doesn't quite pack the same punch as Katee and Josh's previous number. I think the dancers all need a nap, since this isn't quite as energetic as it should be. Cat comes out and mentions that choreographers Mandy Moore, Shane Sparks and Wade Robson have received Emmy nominations. The show itself apparently did not, nor did Cat. There is no justice in the world, Cat! Howie Mandel did, however, score a nomination for Deal or No Deal. I rest my case, re: the lack of global justice.
The girls perform a Mia Michaels group number to the ubiquitous Celine Dion's version of "Ave Maria." The girls play fallen angels in white and they start on the edge of the stage, writhing around and getting on and off the stage. At one point Katee does what amounts to a trust fall backwards off the edge, and the other girls are there to catch her. There is lots of reaching out with anguished expressions, and it's a very affecting piece. I'm not keen on the camerawork, since there's too much cutting between girls and extreme close-ups. It's hard to see what's going on overall at times. However, Mia loves it and cries tears of pure evil in the audience.
The girls line up to find out who's going to purgatory and who's ascending back to heaven -- at least for another week. The makeup from the fallen angels routine is really odd. It's surely caked on with a
trowel, but it's as if they dyed their eyelashes blonde, which makes their eyes disappear in their faces. Light green surrounds the eyes with rosy cheeks and beige lips. It doesn't really suit any of them, but it's interesting. Anyway, America gets it right! Comfort and Kherington are the bottom two. It's out of the judges' hands in this portion of the competition and the dancer with the least votes is out.
The guys perform a number by a "mystery choreographer," and I use my incredible powers of deduction and correctly guess that it's Nigel. They dance to Joe Jackson's "Five Guys Named Moe," and it's a fun
little fluffy piece. Leaping over each other, clapping, jazzy hands and feet movements. They wear white tank tops and black track pants, which suits everyone. I love all these guys, and would happily watch them make jazz hands all the livelong day.
Now it's time for the guys to learn their fate. I'm batting a thousand this week! Mark and Gev are indeed the bottom two. When Will finds out he's safe, he does a big fist pump and mouths "YES!" as he drops to his knees in relief. Now, that sounds rather over the top given his talent and position as teachers' pet, but it seems utterly genuine that he really was scared he'd go. Will's like that cute, popular boy in school who was good at everything, but was so nice and sweet that you couldn't hate him.
The bottom four get to dance a solo not to change minds, but just to
(possibly) go out with a bang. Comfort dances what is my fave routine of hers yet. The judges each get to give Comfort some words of wisdom, and it's what you'd expect. Nigel talks about taking opportunities, Mary praises the hip-hop from the night before, and Lil' C and Comfort exchange for reals, which is what that mysterious hand gesture with the four fingers pointing down from the shoulder means.
Mark's solo is to a Ram Jam version of "Black Betty," which is a such a classic song. Love it. It's a fun routine, but doesn't rock my world. Nigel praises Mark's quirkiness, Mary says people have no idea how hard being on this show is, which prompts Mark to nod emphatically, and Lil' C compares Mark to a worker bee. I think it's a compliment.
Kherington dances her usual twirly contemporary, and it's fine, although some of the jumps seem strangely unextended. Earlier in the recap of last night's dancing, we saw Kherington bitch about how the judges "hate [her]" after she came offstage. Okay, I totally, utterly understand the urge to be pouty and feel sorry for yourself after a bad night, but you do that in your head, or later in your room, or basically anywhere there aren't cameras around.
Lil' C totally calls Kherington out on her comments, saying she can't get upset by constructive criticism. Kherington looks contrite, and Lil' C tells her she's a great dancer, and she has to take it in stride. Word, Lil' C. Mary says she's shocked Kherington's in the bottom two, but I'm not. Mary, weren't you watching last night? Nigel praises her dancing, but also tells her she's infinitely fuckable. Well, he phrases it a bit differently, but that's the key message. He thinks she'll go far looking like that. To be fair, she is pretty damn fuckable.
Gev does his poppin' thang, and it's great as always. Such strength in
that wee body! Lil' C says Gev always delivers, which I absolutely agree with. Even if he isn't always there technically, he gives it his all. I'd say he gives 110%, but this isn't ESPN. Mary marvels at how great Gev was in the ballroom numbers, and Nigel says he's outstanding and unique.
Hey, there's no musical number tonight! My TiVo claimed someone named "Lady GaGa" was performing, but clearly it was a vicious lie. Huzzah!
Cat readies to don her Grim Reaper hat. She truly doesn't enjoy wearing it, and I just love Cat. Comfort and Kherington await their fate, and it's Kherington going home! Comfort is stunned, and you can hear her saying, "What? WHAT?" Wowsa. Well, Kherington did stink it up last night, so I can't be too upset. She takes it like a trouper, although Twitch stands still as a statue and hangs his head for what appears to be a solid minute at least. Awww. Bless.
Next to go is...Gev. I really like both Gev and Mark, so this was lose-lose. Gev is saddened, but Cat pulls him to her bosom. I think we all want to put Gev in our pocket. He mentions looking forward to the tour, which will surely be a ton of fun. Off stage, Mark and Chelsie share a big hug. Seriously, I just love them all! They're so sweet and nice!
I'll be okay with Comfort going next week (assuming her number will be up again), but I really don't want to let any of the guys go at this point. This is getting hard, my friends. (That's what she said.)
