House: Joy (Episode #606)

Can we just discuss how great this show is?! Seriously though, House has got to be one of the best characters on television right now.  Just when you think you have got him figured out, he pulls a stunt like in tonight's episode.  Poor Cuddy, she has no idea what she is in for.

We meet Jerry, a consumer product tester with a slight confusion problem.  By slight I mean he sees things that aren't there, he loses hours of his life at a time, and is completely unhappy.  The latter may not have anything to do with his diagnosis, or it may have everything to do with it.  Meanwhile, Cuddy meets the women who is giving her a child.  Turns out she is a former meth addict who thinks due to her mother, she will be terrible to her child.  So she has chosen Cuddy to raise her flesh and blood.  Good thing too.  Upon meeting, Cuddy notices she has a rash and brings her to the hospital for testing.  Leave it to House to let Cuddy know what a major mistake she is making.

Searching for the cause of Jerry's sickness would prove a daunting task for House's team, especially Taub and Thirteen who have to break into his home to look for anything that would cause this.  Arriving at the house, the two doctors notice though Jerry and his daughter have lived here for six years, and it looks as though they have just moved in.  Not only that, but the two notice black mold growing.  They take a sample back to the lab for testing.

Back at the hospital, Thirteen and Taub see Jerry walking out for an "appointment." They quickly learn he is sleepwalking and House, of coarse, tells them to let him.  They just need to follow him in case what he is doing in his sleep is causing his disease.  While following him, they see him get into his car a drive into a rather seedy part of town.  Thirteen immediately realizes he is scoring drugs.  Cocaine to be exact.  They take him back to the hospital where House sends them back out to score their own sack, for testing purposes only of coarse.

While House is driving Cuddy crazy about adopting, she is busy worrying about the baby's momma.  Turns out, the baby's lungs are underdeveloped and if she has the baby now, she risks the baby's life.  If she waits, she risks her own life.  After Cuddy notices bleeding, she runs to House for help.  Who, obviously, is less then helpful, telling Cuddy to do what she would do with any other patient, tell them to deliver the baby as to not risk their own life.  Cuddy doesn't like this response.  More so, she dislikes the mom's response, selfish as it is, to deliver the baby now so she won't risk her own life.

Wilson, as always, puts House into his place when it comes to Cuddy.  He thinks House doesn't want her to adopt because he is afraid he won't have her undivided attention.  Well, duh.  Anyway, Chase performs a c-section on the mother, and the baby is out.  She just isn't crying yet.  As Cuddy screams for the baby to cry,  House painfully watches as she falls apart.  And then, the baby cries.

Back at home, Cuddy is setting up the nursery, painting it yellow.  The crib is set up and toys are everywhere.  Suddenly, Jerry's daughter falls ill with the same symptoms as her father.  Something in House clicks and he realizes, as usual, that his patients have been lying.  Turns out, they are actually Iraqi, and changed their names after the invasion of Iraq to protect themselves.  They have a disease in which they cannot be happy, and House is the doctor to fix that? Guess so.  Upon waking up after treatment, both father and daughter are smiling and laughing.  Both of which they have never done before.

Talk about a shitty day.  After almost losing her "daughter," Cuddy actually does lose her when the mother decides to keep her.  Cuddy, broken and depressed, goes home to sit in the nursery that will never be.  She hears a knock on the door, and who else but House is standing there.  He actually looks concerned and sad for her.  Especially after he makes out with her.  Yes, House and Cuddy got a little hot n' heavy.  Before things could go further, House says goodnight and leaves.
