It wasn't a 'winner, winner chicken dinner' night for Maurice Greene and partner Cheryl Burke. Falling just one week shy of advancing to the semi-finals, the track star who coined the catchphrase of the season was sent home last night. While Maurice was lovable and never without a smile, he lacked the showmanship of a Warren or a Brooke and failed to strike up crucial chemistry with Cheryl. Seriously, what fun is it if I can't speculate whether or not a couple is makin' out off the dance floor?
Advancing on to the semi-finals, in the order they were revealed, are Warren Sapp and Kym, Lance Bass and Lacey, Brooke Burke and Derek and, lastly, Cody Linley and Edyta/Julianne.
No surprise to see Brooke still in the running. The only woman left in the competition, she's shone since week one. Honestly, I think she's just about as good as she was the first time she stepped onto the floor. Even partner Derek has admitted to being overly hard on her because, at times, he feels like he's dancing with another pro. At this point in the game, if Brooke doesn't cinch the title, I'll be shell shocked.
Warren and Lance were also heavy favorites to continue on, or at least they were in my book. I also have a soft spot for Cody and was happy to see him squeak by. However, viewers most likely want to see Julianne's triumphant return more than Cody's advancement to the finals.
Speaking of little J, she showed her face this week. All went well with her surgery, and she was back on the floor to star in Macy's 'Design A Dance' contest. Fans voted and chose Julianne and brother Derek to perform. I have absolutely no idea how she was doing the splits, jumping off pianos or even just stretching two weeks after having her appendix removed through her belly button. Oy. I'd be afraid it would pop open!
Trying to edge in on the brother/sister game, Lacey Schmimmer was joined by bro Benji for a full-on ho down to the music of Brad Paisely.
So, what's going to happen next week? Brooke will stay solid, but some people need to shape it up one last time. Lance needs to work on his basic technique, and Warren needs to stay light on his feet. With the return of his trusty partner Julianne, Cody may turn out a couple surprise tricks.

I was also a little sad to see Maurice go, but it was time. As for the competition, it's Brooke's to lose. There's a good post over at the official DWTS blog about what's ALMOST right this season: http://dancingstarsabc.livejournal.com/
