Grey's Anatomy: In the Midnight Hour (Episode 86)

The Izzie craziness is on again this week! I don't know about all of you, but the show is really starting to lose me with her Denny visions. Are the brain tumor rumors true? Shonda Rhimes say they aren't true. But, surely, Izzie must have something wrong with her to have gone off the deep end like this, right? At this point I'd be happy if she turned out to have something wrong, at least she wouldn't just be crazy. I don't want Izzie to just be crazy.

We begin with Izzie once again seeing the dead, the very dead, Denny, in her bedroom. He seems to be confused himself because he thinks he's real, so real in fact that they even try, no wait they actually have, sex. Izzie is in her room moaning having imaginery sex with a ghost, meanwhile in other parts of the house everyone is getting pages to get to the hospital because there is going to be a surgery. They all end up overhearing Izzie and at first they figure it's Alex in the room but then he comes out of his room, then Meredith starts calling for Derek fearing he and Izzie are doing the dirty, but it's not him either... so they finally settle on that Izzie must just be having a good time by herself. Alex knocks on her door to let her know they're going to the hospital. She answers the door and is naked and all sweaty, she says she's sick. Oh, she's sick alright. Alex offers to help give her a hand with whatever she's doing, but she decides to continue flying solo... well, I mean with dead Denny.

It's really rather vague of why everyone ends up at Seattle Grace at who knows what hour, but what's it matter anyhow. Cristina is the first to arrive at SG and runs into Hunt McMacho (I forgot I nicknamed him this back during his first appearance). They have a very awkward talk, I guess neither of them can handle the kiss that they shared last week.

Anyway, the interns are at SG as well. Again, I'm really not sure why they would be there in the middle of the night but they are, and they're looking to cause some major trouble this episode. They already have one of the male interns in a bed giving him an epidural, but they forget to put in a catheter so he pees all over the bed. The interns then decide they'd like to take out an appendix, but the intern refuses saying having a tube in his penis is enough. Of course, Sadie being the rebel that she is volunteers for the appedectomy. They look for an empty OR they can do the surgery in, but with all the residents at SG now it's going to be difficult.

All the residents are too busy to care where their interns are at, as usual. Well, typically I guess Cristina would be wondering where her numbered interns are, but she's in rare form this episode. The first patient of the day night is a guy who fell from a second story window. He is cut up pretty bad but the worst part of his case is that he's a raging maniac. He goes ape shit and the docs try to restrain him but before they do he unintentionally knocks Callie to the ground and breaks her nose. We find out later that the guy suffers from horrible night terrors and his daughter hasn't been able to get a good night sleep because of it for a long time.

Another patient comes in, who just happens to be Leslie Grossman who used to be on What I Like About You with Jennie Garth and Amanda Bynes, or you may know her best as Mary Cherry on Popular. Her character is having abdominal cramps and fears that she has stomach cancer based on the internet research that she did. At first she thought she had a staph infection and ordered some powerful meds on the internet to treat it but she obviously misdiagnosed herself because all the meds did was kill all the healthy bacteria and whatnot in her body. So, now Alex has to do a poop transplant on her so that they can reintroduce some healthy bacteria in her body. The poop has to come from someone who lives with her so that they have the same germs, so she has to turn to her husband. He's not too happy with her though because he told her it was not a staph infection but she wouldn't listen to him. Now, he says he won't give her the poop without her admitting it was not a staph infection, but she refuses. Yes, this episode not only features dead Denny, yet again, but also features a lunatic with night terrors and a hypochondriac who needs a poop transplant. SEEKING: NEW WRITERS! I'm just kidding, I love Grey's, even when it is a little... off.

Sloane works on Callie's nose and shows he isn't such a bad guy. He seems to show us that side of him every once in a while, though it's still very rare. He continues the nice guy act by figuring out that the daughter of the man with night terrors hasn't been able to sleep for a while and never feels totally comfortable at home because of her dad's condition. The girl is downing coffee drinks like an adult which is what really tips Sloane off. He offers his shoulder for her to sleep on.

The interns score an empty OR and prep Sadie for the appendectomy. At the last minute though Lexie starts to question whether they're making a huge mistake. Sadie is already numb and wants to go forward so she grabs the scalpel herself and starts cutting away. She is one crazy bitch! Now that the surgery has started, Lexie continues with it. The interns find that Sadie's appendix is inflamed, which is definitely not a good thing. One of the interns freaks out and leaves, she goes and buys a bazillion chocolate bars and is trying to eat away her guilt but then she runs into Meredith and Cristina who are wondering where all the other interns are. The girl says she doesn't know, she doesn't know anything. Meredith and Cristina know she's upto something but don't know what, and Cristina is far more concerned with stealing the chocolate bars.

Things get worse in the surgery on Sadie and after more of the interns abandon the surgery, Lexie decides she better go get Meredith for help. In the meantime, Cristina finds the other intern with the catheter. She knows something is up. At the same time Lexie leads Meredith to the OR where Sadie is cut up and quickly dying. They pull up Cristina to help as well and Meredith says they need to page Bailey and the Chief. The interns know they are going to be in major trouble, they decide to just line up outside the OR and wait for the police to arrive, they are sure they're going to jail. Meredith, Cristina and Bailey work to save Sadie's life and fortunately end up doing just that but it was not an easy task. After Sadie is stable Meredith and Cristina meet with the Chief who is furious that he had to get out of bed because of another intern scandal. For some reason though the blame isn't on the interns nearly as much as it is on Meredith and Cristina. Lexie barges in on the Chief lecture to the two of them and says it's all her fault, not to blame them, Cristina didn't even know anything until yesterday. That last little tidbit sets off the Chief into another rampage furious that Cristina knew they were upto something and didn't say anything. He says that Cristina is out of the running for the solo surgery now. Meredith says she didn't know anything, which is actually a lie because I do believe she knew something was up with Lexie possible cutting herself and she also failed to do anything, as did Derek. After the lecturing Cristina and Meredith get in an argument because Cristina feels Meredith didn't back her up in front of the Chief at all. Cristina tells Meredith that she has pull with the Chief and she could've said something, anything. Although I don't think Meredith did this on purpose I do think it was pretty shitty for her not to stand up for Cristina, because ultimately she didn't know the interns were going to do something like this.

The female patient, played by Leslie Grossman, is still trying to convince her husband to please donate poop. What an asshole to make his wife go through this on purpose. I mean, is he really going to let her get very sick or possibly even die just because she won't admit he was right? She ends up confessing that every day she fears she's going to die. She fears she had a staph infection, she fears she has stomach cancer, and on and on. She has a problem but this is who she is. He finally decides to do the poop transplant.

During all the drama at SG, Izzie is at home still talking to dead Denny. He tries apologizing to her for dying and leaving her, but she says he shouldn't be apologizing because she's the one who killed him. As they're going back and forth Izzie gets a 911 page to get to the hospital so she tells him she has to leave. He says he'll be there when she gets back. Of course, he will be because he just won't friggin leave!

Now with Sadie stable and the Chief done lecturing Meredith and Cristina, the residents turn to Bailey expecting her to give them a speech, but instead she tells them that they're the ones who need to give the speech, it's their interns. So, that's just what they do. They go to Sadie's room and yell at them all, including Sadie, for being so stupid and almost killing someone. They will all be on probation until further notice and Meredith says if they even cough or sneeze they're out of the program. Sound familiar, Izzie? Alex tells them that they'll be lucky if they ever earn his respect again after this incident. One of the interns makes a comment that Izzie seems to have earned Alex's respect back. Alex doesn't like the comment and shoves the guy up against a wall.

The night terror guy talks to his daughter and realizes that his 'problem' has been keeping her awake, he wasn't aware. She tearfully tells him that she knows the stress of taking care of her is what is causing the night terrors and so she just wanted to take care of him at night. Sloane tells the girl that none of this was her fault.

At the end of the day, Bailey visits Callie who is still in bed with her broken nose. Why she's staying overnight at the hospital because of a broken nose is beyond me. Maybe she'll be haunted by ghosts there next week or something? It wouldn't surprise me. Bailey seems really tired, she tells Callie she may be done with general surgery, who knows she might be just done, with everything. I think Bailey is holding back but she is really furious with the residents and the interns and just very disappointed, and really how many times can they disappoint you before you just give up on them?

Meredith visits Sadie before she goes home. She asks Sadie what is wrong with her and then lectures her.

Cristina goes home to find McMacho on her doorstep. He's not sure why he came to her place, he doesn't want to go in or go anywhere with her, he just wants to sit there on her steps. So, she sits with him and he tells her that she's beautiful.

Lexie is disappointed with herself and depressed, sitting by herself in one of the hospital waiting rooms. Derek and Sloane see her, Sloane tells Derek that he needs to have her stay at his place or he's going to ask her. So, Lexie ends up going home with Derek, which is a big surprise to Meredith.

Izzie and Alex go home. Izzie apologizes to him for her being a total mess. He tells her that he's not going to break up with her, he's not going anywhere. He then asks her to come to his room, which she decides to go to, though she looks back at Denny who whispers that he'll be there too. Gee.. aren't we lucky? You'd think the guy would get the hint... first he dies and now she leaves him and he still won't go away.

Next week, Cristina has to decide who will do the solo surgery now that she won't be doing it. I think we can all assume she definitely won't be choosing Meredith after their fight this episode.

:( Hahn's gone but dead Denny is back? :(

What a shame. I really liked the Hahn/Torres storyline and really dislike the dead denny storyline. I'm not sure how much longer I'll be watching.
