Last week we got cheated out of Brothers & Sisters due to the American Music Awards but we're back with a new episode and it's a good one!
Nora is diving right into the restoration of her new home mansion. She drags Kevin, Scotty, Justin and Saul over to check out the place and figure out what all needs to be done. She surprises all of them with a long list of extensive repairs and says they can save a fortune, not to mention "burn some calories" (because they are all raging fat asses, clearly), by doing it all themselves. The guys are not excited to say the least and try to talk her out of it explaining how difficult it will be, but she has an answer for everything. Ultimately, I think we all know who is going to win this argument. Nora, of course.
Holly is having a branding meeting while Tommy is out of town so she asks Rebecca to join her. The firm that reps Ojai is presenting some plans for the next marketing campaign. It seems to be directed toward an older, mature audience or as Rebecca respectively puts it, the "sophisticated" types. She poses the question whether they should market the wine more toward the less sophisticated crowd. They could brand the wine more as a 'girls night in' wine and emphasize the cheap price, yet high quality. Seems like a no brainer! Rebecca worries after saying this that she might be stepping on Tommy's toes because he always wants to aim for the high-end crowd, but Holly tells her not to worry about Tommy. Rebecca's view point not only impresses Holly but the pr rep as well, he even suggests Rebecca submit her resume and maybe pick up a part-time job with them as a "trend spotter." Rebecca is flattered.
Sarah is in a total frenzy and it's for good reason. She and the Greenatopia guys are meeting with their first potential investor today. The meeting place: conference room Sarah's living room. The investor turns out to be none other than Sarah's former fling, Graham Finch. I'll admit I'm a bit of a Brothers & Sisters newbie so I'm still trying to catch myself up on all the past drama. Ethan and Kyle immediately pick up on Sarah and Graham already knowing each other, Sarah just says they used to work together briefly. As the meeting progresses, Graham presses the group on details on how much traffic Greenatopia can attract, Sarah gives a straightforward answer telling Graham the audience they attract will be a high-end crowd, which of course is an advertisers "wet dream," as she puts it. This little sexual reference brings on a little sexual tension between Sarah and Graham and Kyle is quick to question just how the two know each other. Kyle and Ethan ask to speak with Sarah in the kitchen. They then drill her with questions on her and Graham's past relationship, she admits that he was the one she had a fling with and the same one that almost brought down Ojai. That's not such comforting news, but maybe they can leverage the relationship to score some venture capital. As they're going back and forth Graham interrupts them to let them know he'll have to get to another meeting across town but would like to do dinner with Sarah tomorrow night to discuss the finances. They agree and Graham says "it's a date," which boils Kyle's blood.
Kitty drops by Robert's office. He's an hour late to meet with her and then when he shows all he wants to discuss is this wonderful new obsession; a surrogate. Yes, he has already moved on from adoption to surrogacy now. Kitty tells him that she's already thought of that and she seems like she's not totally over an adoption, but he's only into this now so she agrees to consider it at least. Later, as she's leaving, she gets a call from guess who? Trish, the mom who Kitty and Robert were supposed to adopt from but then she pulled out on the deal, no pun intended. She later meets with Trish, and she is clearly much further along in the pregnancy now. She and Trish have a real heartfelt conversation about what happened. Trish admits that before Kitty questioned her about whether she had considered all her options she really hadn't considered them all, but now she has and she's at peace with the decision. And, that decision is to not keep the baby. She says she feels the baby would be best with Robert and Kitty. Kitty's jaw dropped a little when that came out of Trish's mouth. But, the question is.. will Kitty and Robert still trust Trish enough? Or, will they decide to go the surrogate route now?
Rebecca brings Holly some coffee and thanks her for letting her take part in the branding meeting earlier. Rebecca expresses how interested she is in how all the business things work at Ojai. Holly suggests that they could create an entirely new position just for Rebecca to allow her to get more experience and work her way into Ojai. Rebecca is, again, unsure what Tommy will think but Holly says it doesn't matter because she's the CEO.
The guys are still working at Nora charity case mansion. They are busy doing some serious demolition, while she more or less just supervises. When they complain of aches or hunger pains she tosses 'em tylenol and a protein bar and tells them to get back to work. She's one tough cookie, seriously. Rebecca cruises in with four pizza's to help jumpstart everyone's moods, plus she wants to share her great news about her promotion with everyone. The only problem is that when she tells everyone about the promotion they all just sort of stare at her with looks of disgust. Rebecca asks what that's about and Justin is sure to stick his foot in his mouth telling her that she's not exaclty qualified for her new position. Rebecca gets mad and storms out telling everyone she better go home and brush up on her skills since she's not qualified. I'm really not sure why Justin would say that to her. I mean, she may not be totally qualified but it's a starting position where she can continue to learn the ropes. And, besides that, who is he to judge? Don't blame Rebecca for Holly being a bitch.
Sarah meets with Graham for dinner and drinks to discuss Greenatopia. At first things get off to a bit of a rocky start with them flirting. I was actually starting to wonder if they were even going to discuss business. Fortunately, things turn to Greenatopia and even better it's good news, well sort of. The venture capital firm does want to invest in Greenatopia - $1 million now, another $3 million later, but they want 30% ownership and Kyle and Ethan will be out the door. Sarah tells Graham that it's their baby and they won't be willing to give it up. Graham says they could stay on as founders still, Sarah still isn't sure they will be up for this but says she'll discuss it with them. After this she and Graham end up kissing which is essentially the end of their little business meeting because neither one can focus on business after that. Sarah leaves to go discuss the offer with Kyle and Ethan.
Robert and Kitty show up at Nora's charity mansion and they're in deep discussion over what to do about Trish. Robert is not happy about Trish suddenly coming back into the picture. Nora overhears them bickering and assumes it's them complaining about the state of the mansion but they tell her it's not. She immediately sends Robert to go upstairs to help pull carpet and then loads Kitty with pieces of trim. Kitty complains because she's wearing a very expensive coat.
Sarah goes to Ethan and Kyle's apartment to share the news. She gives them only the good news, the million dollar figures, the offices, retirement plans, etc. and Kyle and Ethan are litteraly jumping for joy at this point. In fact, Kyle even picks Sarah up and spins her around. But then, Sarah gets into the details more. She tells them that she would be the CEO and the firm would bring in a board of directors, and Kyle and Ethan would be co-founders. They aren't sure exactly what that means, but she tells them it would mean they would be figure heads for the company. Essentially it means that they are nothing more than the company mascots. They wouldn't get to have a vote, though Sarah says she would get to vote so she says their ideas would still be heard. The excitement comes to a crashing halt and Kyle and Ethan turn to doom and gloom. They are pissed that Sarah would go and sell them out. She doesn't really get it, or if she does she doesn't seem to really express it. I mean, in my opinion, she definitely sold them out. She tells them that she worked out the best deal possible for them but that's not true. Her and Graham barely even discussed the deal and she never countered with her own offer. It would've at least been worth a shot. Kyle tells Sarah to just say goodnight and leave, which she does.
Holly gives Rebecca her own office, which happens to be Saul's old office. Rebecca asks her if she only gave her the job because she's her daughter. Holly is upfront with her, she says that she probably would not have given her the job had she not been her daughter but that's how it goes, that's how it worked in the Walker family as well. But, that's not the only reason she gave her the job she tells her that she knows that she is smart and talented and going to be a tremendous asset to the company, and she wouldn't have given her the job had that not been the case. This helps reassure Rebecca that this is right and she thanks Holly for being so honest. I'm really happy to see Rebecca in this new role and I hope it works out for her. I think she'll definitely be a good asset, more so for the Walker family than for Holly.
Sarah goes to Nora's mansion to join the family demolition crew. She tells Nora and Kitty, who are delicately taking apart the walls, about what happened with Graham and then Ethan and Kyle. As she's telling Nora and Kitty this she grabs a sledgehammer and starts tearing apart the walls. It's working much better than Nora and Kitty's way. Meanwhile, the guy are upstairs whining about getting the carpet downstairs. Just then, Nora takes the sledgehammer to a load bearing wall and just about demolishes the entire mansion. It sends a crack up the walls and starts to collapse parts of the second floor. Thankfully no one is hurt but it's a huge mess and it just reinforces the obvious that this place is going to cost an absolute fortune to make beautiful. Nora has a break down, she can't believe she made such a mistake buying this place (way to go Kevin). Kitty tries to cheer her up reminding her that the Walker family is always creating and getting into very messy, complicated situations but they always manage to turn them around and make them better. Kitty tells her that if she gives up then there's no hope for the rest of them. Just as it looks like Nora might be cheering up a little more pieces from the second floor start to come down and dust goes everywhere. Nora turns to Kitty and tells her thanks anyway.
The next day, Robert talks to Kevin at the office and expresses how much he's more into the surrogacy idea whereas Kitty is still into adopting from Trish. Robert admits he doesn't know what is the best decision though.
Sarah meets with Graham about Greenatopia. She tells him that though the offer is tempting she can't accept because it would be selling out Kyle and Ethan. At first, I thought Graham might end up negotiating and maybe giving Ethan and Kyle a stake and the firm might just invest less initially to see how things went, but then things took a turn and again instead of discussing business Sarah and Graham start making out and then end up having sex.
Kevin, Scotty, Justin and Saul have a surprise for Nora. After some more demolition at the mansion they discovered an amazing, massive piece of artwork behind one of the walls. My question is how much is the baby worth? But, that's not what's on Nora's mind, instead this just makes her want to keep the house and hire an architect and designer, etc.
Tommy comes back from his business trip and finds Rebecca moving into her new office. It's a very awkward moment between the two as Tommy hasn't spoken to Holly and therefore doesn't know about Rebecca's new position, and Rebecca really doesn't want to be the first to tell him. She does tell him though and he is shocked, of course. She says she can go back to her desk and wait for him and Holly to discuss it but he says that won't be needed and lets her continue moving into the office. Tommy goes straight to Holly's office though and raises a shit fit about it. He is pissed that she didn't consult with him, she says that she doesn't have to. He says this is not how his father would have done things and she explains that this is not the Walker family business anymore. She tells him to take it to the board if he wants, but he says that he won't be doing that and then walks out.
Justin comes to Rebecca's new office hoping to make amends. He comes with an office warming gift and an apology. She tells him that she realizes her mom is really giving her an opportunity here but that she knows she'll be good at it, and she agrees. As he leaves she opens the present which is "Advertising for Dummies."
Sarah goes to Ethan and Kyle's apartment with beer and pizza, perhaps the two best 'forgive me' gifts ever. She tells them that she turned down the deal. It doesn't take long for them to tip back some beers and regroup as a happy little Greenatopia family again.
Robert and Kitty meet with Trish and witness an ultrasound. They fall in love with the images from the get-go. But, what surprises me is that they decide to wait to find out the sex of the baby. So, I guess this means that they're going the adoption route?
Tommy calls Saul for a late night meeting. Tommy tells Saul he needs his help to fix the company because obviously he can't do it alone. He says he's not going to sit by as Holly ruins the company. Saul says his previous offer stands to do whatever it takes to get Holly out. And, that is how this episode comes to a close.
I have a feeling that Tommy and Saul's new plan is going to cause major Walker drama, especially with Justin and Rebecca.
