I swear, it's almost impossible for House to be wrong when it comes to matters of human behavior. This is proved when he meets Emmy, a fitness trainer hell bent on hard work instead of the easy way out. The first scene has Emmy running up stadium bleachers while motivating a rather large man who is out of breath. Emmy gets him up the bleachers, but passes out herself, rolling down the stairs she just easily climbed.
Meanwhile, at the hospital, Cuddy is getting under House's skin. Since her office was ravaged during the hostage crisis, she decides to move in with House. Much to House's dismay, Cuddy is pushing Emmy's case on him and sadly, he has no where to go to get away from her. Instead of fighting it, House takes Emmy's case with the help of Taub and Kutner. Thirteen and Forman are busy trying to prolong Thirteen's life with a clinical drug trial.
Realizing Emmy's lung problems have nothing to do with her lungs, House becomes more interested in the case. Kutner and Taub are suggesting different causes, however, none of them seem to be the diagnosis House is looking for. While waiting for Forman, Thirteen sees her future, and it freaks her out. She flashes back to memories of her mom fading away from her. Even scarier, after running a test, Forman tells Thirteen her nerves have already started degenerating.
To find out if it is asthma ailing Emmy, Kutner and Taub have her run on a treadmill attached to monitors. When she collapses, they realize it isn't asthma. Worse over, after scanning her body for tumors, they realize she has had gastric bypass surgery. Just as House suspected, she is a lyer. Then again, all people lie so it wasn't really shocking. Taub seems to be the most upset about it, even confronting Emmy to tell her followers that she had been lying. Next up on the diagnosis trail: bacteria from her surgery spreading throughout her body, OR it's sleep apnea.
With all the drama with Emmy, Kutner almost forgot about his new side job. An online secondary opinion clinic. Under House's name. Taub threatens to tell House unless he is cut in on the profits. While they argue about terms, one of "House's" online patients comes in to talk to "House." The patient is complaining about his online diagnosis, even running her fingers through her hair to show a chunk of it coming out. Before House sees Kutner and Taub, they get the patient into the ER where Cameron is now in on the lucrative online clinic profits.
As the team is realizing there is something wrong with Emmy's muscles, Forman is getting quite annoyed that Thirteen would rather be working then taking care of herself. He tells her there are a lot of other people that would take her place in the study if she wanted. Which, she does. Too bad Forman isn't letting her off that easily. Upon arriving home from work, Thirteen finds Forman sitting in her kitchen, waiting to finish his treatment. He also tells her not to be late, or she will get thrown out of the program.
In the meantime, Cuddy is busy trying to royally piss off House by basically spilling a smoke bomb on the ground. The team is now forced to differentiate in the stairwell. While Emmy is getting worse, there is no hope of her getting any better. Meanwhile, the online patient, DeeDee is singing uncontrollably and bleeding out of her ear. Cameron and Taub tell Kutner he has to tell House about this. Instead, Kutner asks Chase for help who says he will scan her for 25% of his online profits. At this point, Kutner is losing money and a patient.
Taub tells Emmy she may have a brain tumor. As they pass the cafeteria, Emmy asks for a slice of chocolate cake, and Taub knows she is giving up. Elsewhere in the hospital, Thirteen is having more flashbacks of her mother after seeing another patient struggling to get a sweater on. Thirteen goes to help her, and it seems she is really going to work to save herself. Later, Emmy has a nightmare that her clients are attacking her for lying about her "hard work." The team fights over whether or not to do a brain biopsy on Emmy against Cuddy's wishes. Of coarse, House takes matters into his own hands and says he will do the biopsy himself. When the team goes to get Emmy, she is up and stretching, apparently felling better. House then figures it out; Emmy has a hereditary disease that actually warrants her being fat. She needs to have her surgery reversed and be put on a high carb diet. Emmy refuses, she would rather be pretty than healthy.
As Cuddy's office is finally finished, she enters and realizes the desk is her old desk from med school. Only House would know this. She smiles and seeks him out. While Cuddy is looking for him, House is busy bowling one over on Kutner and Taub. When the two return to the ER to check on her, the nurse tells them she suffored from respitory arrest and died. Kutner, freaking out, runs to the morge to see the body. Standing behind Taub and Kutner in the morge is House, who jumps on the lifeless body and starts compressions. Suddenly, DeeDee gasps for air and Kutner and Taub freak. House is a sneaky, sneaky man. He planned the whole thing to teach Kutner a lesson, eventhough he is allowing Kutner to continue the website. Meanwhile, Cuddy finally finds House chatting up DeeDee. Cuddy's face falls and she walks away. Another missed opportunity for the two love birds.
