Private Practice: Worlds Apart (Episode 19)

We've watched Addison and Kevin bang countless times now but it just never seems to get old. Thankfully that's how we begin this episode. Addison is out of breath and the two fall back onto the bed, happy and worn out. Kevin's gun shot wound appears to be healing just fine. It looks like he'll be heading back to S.W.A.T. in the near future.

Addison heads off to work where she meets with Sam about them losing a lot of clients to Pacific Wellness, Charlotte's practice. While they're observing their empty waiting room, Dr. Lockheart from the fourth floor drops in hoping to speak with Naomi about who knows what. This guy is really starting to get annoying.. between him calling Addison "monty" to him now wanting to talk to Naomi for some unknown reason, I'm just about fed up with this douchebag.

Violet and Coop run into each other in the break room getting coffee and instantly Coop just knows she had sex. What, does he have a sex radar or what? She admits she did but doesn't say who with, just then her lover boy, Pete, comes strutting in. Coop tells Pete that Violet had sex, Pete just says "oh," while trying to keep a straight face.

Coop's first patient is a tween boy with diabetes. The boy has to wear a monitor which has a tube running into his belly. Coop points out that the boy needs to keep the insertion point cleaner, the boy says he's been trying but that he and his dad have been sleeping in a car. Coop later talks to the dad and tells him that the boy will need a new insulin pump and it'll take 3-4 days to get it. This doesn't work for the dad who says he has to be in Oregon for a job interview in a couple days. Coop says he needs the pump or else.

Addison's patient is a young twenty-something girl who tells Addison that she's had more sexual partners lately. Addison asks if it's more than five, the girl says 11... this month. Addison asks if there's something going on, she says that she's trying to save up for medical school and is working as a call girl. She tells Addison she and the girls she works with are afraid they may have picked up an STD at a recent party. The girls all want to come see Addison but they were sort of scared to. Addison says she doesn't like this one bit, but gives the girl her business card and even writes down her personal cell number. Addison later talks to Sam, Violet and Coop about the girl and they all give her their insight about call girls and prostitutes. Naomi comes walking in a moment later, Addison and Sam are both dying to find out what Lockheart wanted with her but she says she hasn't talked to him yet. She gets that they want to know what he wants so she leaves and goes to talk to him.

So, just what does Lockheart want? Well, he has some bragging to do. A lung cancer patient he's been treating seems to have fully recovered thanks to his aggressive methods. But, that's not all he wants. That same patient now wants to get pregnant and that's where Naomi comes in. Naomi is curious as to why Lockheart would just give over one of his patients. Charlotte comes in and says they wouldn't be giving over their patient, they want Naomi to sort of freelance for them on this case. I don't think so!

Coop does some research on the diabetic kid that was in early. It turns out that the insulin pump that he has now is registered under a different name, and as Sam points out you can't trade insulin pumps. So, Coop tracks back the pump to the doctor that gave it out. When he talks to the doc he learns that the kid that he gave the pump to was kidnapped.

The group of call girls come to the office to see Addison. The entire waiting room is filled up now with them. Sam, Dell and Coop are checking out the hot girls, who just look like normal girls. Kevin even drops into Oceanside at the right time to check out the girl. Somehow he already knows they're call girls without anyone telling him, he says it's his job. I didn't know SWAT was really that focused on call girls but who knows. Anyway, Kevin surprises Addison with the visit which is really for no reason at all. When Kevin asks what the hookers are all about it leads to an argument between Addison and Violet and eventually an argument between Addison and Kevin. Addison thinks it's perfectly ok that she's treating the call girls, while Kevin and Violet are totally against it. Violet thinks it's degrading for the whole practice and Kevin chimes in with various stats on prostitution = crime. I'm with Addison on this one, I don't get what the problem is. I guess that's because I also think legalizing and regulating prostitution is the way to go. Call me crazy.

After Violet walks out on her argument with Addison she and Pete go get on the elevator together and try their hardest to resist one another. They do and then the doors open and Meg is there. As soon as Pete gets out of the elevator he and Meg starts kissing. This is just a wee bit awkward for Violet.

Coop gets the diabetic boy and his dad to come back to the office. While Dell watches the dad, Coop talks to the boy alone and tells him he knows about the kidnapping. The boy finally opens up and explains that his mom's boyfriend was beating him and so his dad took him. As he's explaining this he goes into a diabetic seizure. Coop has to give him a shot immediately and then they rush him to the hospital. The boy turns out fine but the dad blames himself. Coop asks why he kidnapped his boy, the dad says it would have been a long process to try to get custody and the whole time he would've been abused. Coop says he needs to turn himself in but the dad refuses. Charlotte comes in while they're talking about this and asks if something is wrong, Coop says he's got it handled. Coop talks to the boy and he begs Coop not to turn them into the cops. He says his dad is the only one he has, and he is the only one tha this dad has.

Sam and Addison meet with Naomi and she tells them what Lockheart wants. Naomi is seriously considering helping Lockheart and his patient. Sam and Addison are clearly not happy about this.

That night Addison meets with Kevin at her place on the beach. He's not happy, yet again. She had sent over her housekeeper to his house to tidy up since he hadn't been there since the shooting. Kevin went there today and realized and now he's pissed because he thinks Addison is pitying him. Just then Addison gets a call from one of the call girls asking her to come help her because one of the guys has slapped her. Addison goes to rush to help her and this leads to another argument with Kevin over how dangerous it is. Addison leaves and says she's going alone, though she picks up Sam on the way. When they arrive the girl does not look well. She's gasping for air and they have to stab her with some needle in the chest to help get air into her lungs. Out of all the doctor shows I watch I'm not sure I've seen it down this way. Usually you see them put a hole further up near the base of the throat but this was in the left lung. They end up having to call an ambulance to get her help. The girl is freaking out that her parents will find out because she's on their insurance. Addison tells her to say her name is Jane Doe and pay in cash, then her parents won't find out.

Pete and Meg go out to dinner and Meg tries to figure out what's wrong with Pete. He's being very quiet and she senses something is up. She asks if everything is good between them, he says it is, we know better though.

The next day, Naomi meets with the woman who beat lung cancer and wants to get pregnant. Naomi tells Lockheart she wants to talk to the woman alone, Lockheart agrees. So, Naomi talks to the woman who just raves about Lockheart and what a great doc he is. Naomi tells her that fertility treatments can be tough on the body and her body has already been through so much. She asks if she's really ready for that. The woman says her body fought her and she win, now she's ready to take control of her dreams again.

Pete goes to Violet and asks her to give him some therapy. He tells her about his convo with Meg last night and he's not sure what to tell her. When Violet responds with a question to his question, Pete tells her to quit being his therapist now and just be his friend. So, she does. She tells him that she thinks it only helps the cheater to confess to the cheating basically it's just selfish, if he plans to stay with Meg then she suggests he just deal with the guilt and move on.

Naomi meets with Lockheart again and questions whether he wants her to do this for the patient or just his own ego. He says that he's trying new ways to beat cancer, this isn't about his ego, it's about beating cancer and asks how she can't want to be apart of that.

Addison is at the hospital with her call girl patient. The girl looks horrible, her entire left eye is black and blue and closed. Addison tells the girl she needs to quit this, but the girl still insists that this is best for her because she can pay off college by the time she graduates and another year after that she'll have med school paid off. Addison tells her that there are other ways. The girl asks how many side jobs Addison had to get to help pay off her loans. Of course we know Addison comes from a rich family so she definitely didn't struggle. The girl says if she didn't struggle then she has no idea. Addison is tempted to tell the girl's parents, but the girl reminds her of patient-doctor privacy privledges, Addison says despite that she's tempted. The girl says she knows what she's doing. Umm.. right.

Addison and Coop talk outside of the hospital about their patients. Addison says it's funny because Coop is supposed to call the cops about his patient and he's not, she's not supposed to call the cops but she wants to. Coop says it's funny what people do to themselves but they're not in those people's shoes so who are they to say what is best.

Naomi goes to Violet and tells her that she thinks she wants to do something bad. Violet thinks that Naomi is going to sleep with Lockheart, Naomi says no not that, she's thinking of helping Lockheart with this patient. Naomi asks if that is bad and Violet stumbles to give her an answer and ends up walking away in tears. Naomi has no idea what that was about.

Charlotte confronts Coop and tells him that she knows what is going on with the diabetic kid and called the cops. She says Coop is stupid for not calling them before and risking his license. Coop gets pissed off at Charlotte and then goes and tells the boy and his dad that they need to go right away and helps them.

Violet and Pete end up running into each other again and can't resist the urge to get it on for a second time. But, just as they're making out and feeling each other up in walks Meg and catches them. She stands there stunned for a second and then storms off without a word. Pete runs to catch up with her. She says she knew something was going on, he says he wanted to tell her but didn't want to hurt her, she says she's hurt.

Naomi goes to Sam and Addison and tells to them that she has decided to consult with Lockheart on this patient. Both Sam and Addison are totally surprised that she would do this and are furious. Sam tells her that this is absolutely the wrong step. He says that it's Naomi that is always the one that is talking about doing what's best for the practice and this is not what's best for the practice and once she sells out she'll always be a sell out.

Coop returns to his office after tipping off the diabetic kid and his dad. Charlotte storms into his office and tells him that the cops only found an empty hospital room. He figures she told them it was him that tipped them off but she says she didn't, she covered for him, so now she says they're even.

Addison goes to the call girl and tells her that she can't be her doctor anymore because no matter how you spin it she's a hooker and she doesn't support it.

Coop goes to Violet and asks who she slept with, she tells him Pete but he doesn't believe her and leaves saying he can't be late for his date with Angelina Jolie.

Sam and Lockheart end up on the elevator together at the end of the day. About midway down Sam stops the elevator and tells Lockheart that he has asthma and needs an inhaler when he gets worked up. He says he'll line up ten if he needs to, if Lockheart messes with Naomi Sam says he'll take him out. With that said Sam pushes the button and their elevator ride continues.

Addison goes home and finds Kevin there sitting on the stairs like he was last week when he couldn't get up on his own. This week he's sitting there waiting for her to get home, not so she can help him, but so that he can break up with her. Yup, you heard that right. He says that everything she does always has to be under her control and he can't take it, he takes his bags and leaves. Addison does her best to fight the tears as he walks out.

I forgot to mention at the end of the recap that Kate Walsh and her husband have filed for divorce after just getting married last year. It's rumored that Kate and co-star David Sutcliffe, who plays Kevin, have been having an affair. I'm not sure if the rumor is true but given their on-screen chemistry I can see how it could be true.
