TV News Update: The New Dr. Who TBA!

David Tennant as Doctor WhoThe BBC will announce David Tennant's replacement in the role of British sci-fi's classic hero Doctor Who tomorrow on the BBC One channel. Tennant, despite back injury, is currently filming four special episodes of the series as his farewell from the role.

Former MTV VJ and Nick Lachey girlfriend Vanessa Minnillo will serve as host and one of three judges on the new ABC reality series True Beauty, which premieres on Jan. 5. TV Guide reports that the show's premise has contestants thinking they are vying in a beauty contest when they are actually also being judged on their character.  Minnillo says she was sometimes shocked by some of the contestants' behaviors. "I can't believe a person, knowing that there's a camera, would actually say that." We're judging their inner beauty and their outer beauty, but they don't know that. In a hidden camera situation, I get it, like if they acted a certain way, I get it. But when they were sitting there full-on looking at the camera saying what they were saying, I couldn't believe it. I'm like, "You're not even trying to be fake. You're just full-on: 'I'm hot! I'm a 10!'"

E! Online reports that Salma Hayek's multi-episode guest-starring arc on 30 Rock will have her playing a nurse to Jack Donaghy's (Alec Baldwin) ailing mother (Elaine Stritch).Hayek will reportedly become Baldwin's love interest. Her first episode airs on NBC on Jan. 8.

Failed variety show hostess and former View host Rosie O'Donnell has announced via her haiku-style blog that she is going to end posting online for awhile, according to Us .  "2009/ this year unplugged/see what happens/on we go/peace out/and in," she posted on Thursday.
