Brothers & Sisters: A Father Dreams (Episode 50)

After a refreshing break for the holidays we're back with a new episode of the always dramatic Brothers & Sisters. This week the episode title tells it all. Kevin is having some seriously delusional dreams. He is still recovering from having a piece of his liver taken out and hopped up on who knows what drugs, so I guess I'll try not to judge too harshly.

We begin with delusional dream #1; Kevin hears a baby crying and comes down the stairs at his mom's house. The whole famdamnly is there in the kitchen cooking up some liver. Yummy! He can't figure out where the baby is at and no one else seems to hear a baby. He finally wakes up and realizes it was all just a dream, err, nightmare. But, the nightmare doesn't exactly end there, come to find out he's living the nightmare. He's recovering at his mom's house and his husband and mom are battling over who is the better caretaker.

Kitty and Robert drop in to visit with Kevin. Nora gives Robert a friendly reminder that her son is still recovering and doesn't need to be discussing work. Robert says he's there to see his brother-in-law, not communications chief. Of course, being the typical politician that he is, Robert is lying through his teeth because that's all he wants to discuss with Kevin. He has some vote coming up and he needs to be briefed on what the vote entails. Clearly it is much too difficult for him to read it over himself and decide without having someone else interpret it for him. Nora catches wind of the discussion via the baby monitor... yes, Nora has installed a baby monitor in Kevin's room so that she can hear him at ALL times. In order to try to maintain the peace and solve the crisis Kitty says she'll step in for Kevin as communications chief while he's recovering. Umm... haven't we been there and done that?

Though this episode is basically "the Kevin show" we'll move onto the co-stars. Nora is working on her charity and needs an architect to build a magnificent place. Saul has just the guy, but it turns out Nora has a bad past with him and does everything she can to avoid having to see him. The guy is named Roger and apparently Nora flirted with him 30 some years ago trying to make her hubby jealous at the time. It didn't work and she just felt like a fool and therefore tried to avoid seeing Roger ever again. It took the whole episode to lead up to Nora finally revealing that secret to Saul but I just dropped the bombshell early because I'm cool like that. Roger ends up coming by unannounced andNora is forced to see him and deal with him again.

Justin is the show-and-tell subject for Sarah's boy. He brought Justin to his first grade class to tell them what a hero he is.. oh yeah, and how he's an unemployed, video game playing bum. This isn't exactly what Justin was hoping he'd tell the class about his uncle but that's what he got anyway. Justin ends up feeling like a douchebag, so later Sarah tries calling him to make amends but he's nowhere to be found.

Kevin finds Justin though... in the family driveway. Kevin has escaped from his room after a battle between Nora and Scotty over who gets to undress Kevin for his shower. Oh yeah, and not to forget yet another of Kevin dreams, this latest one being of him and Julia (Tommy's wife) getting hot and heavy on each other. A wee bit too strange for Kevin. He ends up in Justin's truck, but when they go to leave Kevin realizes he not only forgot to turn on the shower so that everyone thought he was really showering but he also forgot his meds. Justin has to sneak inside and do Kevin's dirty work. While Justin's inside Kevin has a daydream of himself being pregnant. WTF? Justin ends up only grabbing one of the meds Kevin needs but he says the hell with it and they zip off to some beachside hotel to hide out.

Scotty alerts Nora to Kevin being missing, Nora of course starts calling around to alert everyone and their brother.. or in this case the entire Walker family. Sarah is the first to get in touch with Kevin, though she's really not concerned with him.. she just wants to know how Justin is doing. Kevin bribes Sarah telling her to pick him up some new painkillers (since they left them behind at home) and then she can come to the hotel and see Justin. Sarah picks up the pills and then goes to the hotel, Tommy is with her. They end up staging an intervention-of-sorts with Justin over how he's leading his life. Clearly being made fun of in front of a class of first graders wasn't bad enough, now he has to hear it from his own brothers and sisters. Justin can't take anymore and tries to leave but just then Sarah gets a bright idea and stops him.

With Kevin gone, Scotty doesn't bite his tongue when it comes to Nora. He tells her that he's his husband and he should the one taking care of him. This leads to hurt feelings between the two but by the end of the episode Nora calls Scotty crying and apologizing. Scotty goes to the hotel to yell at Kevin for being ungrateful. This fight leads to another fight between Kevin and Tommy when Kevin seems to be interested in being a bigger part of his daughter/niece's life. Everyone except Scotty and Kevin end up storming out of the hotel room, which by the way has one amazing ocean view.

Later, Kevin has another dream.. this one not being of a baby but instead of his daughter being grown up. The good feelings from this don't last long because Tommy comes back to serve him with papers to sign to eliminate any and all parental rights. Kevin is offended at first and pissed off with Tommy but he and Scotty end up having a chat later about them having a kid themselves in the future. Kevin then goes to Tommy and Julia's to see his niece and hold her. He and Tommy make up and all is good again.

Kitty and Robert have some super 'brain sex' by debating over various topics. The brain sex leads to some real sex right there in Robert's office. Robert says he wants Kitty to come back full-time, which I guess would leave Kevin unemployed. At first Kitty seems interested but later in the episode she decides there's no way she can devote enough time to it with a baby coming soon and her book. I guess they will just have to figure out a new way to have 'brain sex.'

Sarah shows Justin an apartment and reassures him that just because he nearly OD'd last time he lived on his own doesn't mean it has to happen again. He's been through much worse in Iraq and Afghanistan. Justin surprises Nora telling her that he's moving out! Woo-hoo! Nora is really happy, proud of her son. She's glad to see him getting on his own two feet again.

Next week on an all-new B+S: Sarah's web venture must take a nosedive because she goes to Nora and then Kitty looking for money... $120,000 in fact. This huge loan may turn things bitter between Sarah and Kitty though. Nora starts her charity project and I bet we'll be seeing more of Roger.

I wonder why Sarah needs the big loan and whether this will change the $1 million deal she passed up before? Maybe she will decide to make a deal with the devil afterall. I think Justin moving out may help him and Rebecca... who we didn't even get to see this episode. And, last but not least, is the drama surrounding Balthazar Getty, who plays Tommy. Apparently he's been causing some drama on-set and the show creators want him gone. We'll see if his scenes get cut down as the season goes on. Would any of you miss him?
