Private Practice: Contamination (Episode 20)

Violet and Pete are still going hot and heavy even after getting busted by Meg last episode. Naomi and Lockheart from Pacific Wellness are still working together on the woman who beat cancer and now wants to get preggers. They already tried to give the woman ovarian tissue but it didn't work. Naomi wants to try it again and place the tissue deeper, but Lockheart doesn't want to do such a risky procedure. Naomi says she knows someone who could do it.

Coop has a patient from 2 years ago return. It's a woman with three young boys. She moved the boys to Switzerland two years ago to help them get better treatment. I'm not sure yet exactly what is wrong with each of them. The reason the mom brought them to Coop though is because on got sick on the plane ride from Switzerland to the US. He has a 102 fever but the problem seems to be when Coop looks at his throat.

Naomi goes to Addison to see if she'll help with the patient she's working on with Lockheart. Just as they're discussing it Coop rushes in and says they need to close off the office. Why? The boy has measles! The close down the office meaning every single patient that morning has to stay there until they can be immunized. Oh yeah, and the health department has to come in which is going to be a headache no one wants to deal with.

The docs all gather to start sorting files for patients whom they will be immunizing. The subject turns to whether immunizations are totally safe. Of course this has been a heated debate lately with actress Jenny McCarthy at the center of it all. She claims to have more or less cured her son of autism through a special diet. She says it's the immunizations at birth that led her son to having autism. Sam immedately takes a hard stance saying that the CDC has ruled immunizations are fine and that's the end of the conversation. Apparently the CDC has never been wrong.

Coop has to go alert Charlotte about his measles kid because one of their patients wandered through Pacific Wellness's coffee bar therefore exposing all her patients to measles. After Coop gets back from telling Charlotte he talks to Violet again about who she's sleeping with. She insists yet again that she is sleeping with Pete but he doesn't believe her. He finally believes her when she tells him about Pete having a tattoo on the lower abdomen, so Coop goes and asks Pete to lift his shirt. After some reluctant Pete lifts his shirt and there's the tat.

Lockheart goes to Addison to beg her to help with the case that he and Naomi are doing. Addison doesn't seem interested but I'm guessing she'll change her mind by the end of the show. In fact she changes her mind within just a scene or two. She goes to Naomi and tells her that she'll do it if Naomi promises never to work with Lockheart again. Naomi doesn't like the condition but she goes along anyway. Why is everyone so tense? They need to loosen up.

The health dept shows up and the lady is young but a total bitch. She immediately starts criticizing them, their lack of an 'isolation room' and on and on. Sam comments that this isn't going to be very fun, she doesn't even crack a smile.

Coop takes the boy with measles to the hospital, though they still don't seem to be isolated. The boy starts to show more visible signs of being sick so finally Coop decides they should move him to an isolated room. That's probably a good idea, genius. So, at this point I have finally caught on to the whole storyline with the mom and boys. It turns out that Coop vaccinated one of the boys years ago and after the vaccination the boy quit talking and seemed to become a totally different person. So, now the mom hates vaccinations and will not do vaccinations anymore.

Coop returns to Oceanside and tells the docs that the mom still refuses the vaccination. Sam wants him to call family services. This causes another heated argument and becomes really awkward when Pete agrees with Violet and Coop blurts out that Pete's only agreeing with Violet because he's sleeping with her. PENALTY!

Heather, Dell's baby mama shows up, to see Dell and let him know whether Betsy has been vaccinated. Betsy played with the measles boy before they knew he had measles. She looks really good, very put together... not the looney addict that Dell had us picturing. Looks don't tell the whole story though. She insists that she's not using now but clearly she does have a checkered past as Dell explained before. When he asks if Betsy has been vaccinated she has no clue.

Addison escapes the craziness that is Oceanside to enjoy a coffee on the beach. Pete joins her and they talk about him and Violet having sex. He tells her that the sex is good, they laugh a lot, it's no big deal. She laughs, she asks him how he could have all that and it still not be a big deal. Isn't that a relationship, she questions.

The next morning Violet runs into Sheldon at the elevator. Fortunately Pete arrives at the same time and jumps on the elevator with the two. Sheldon tells her that she looks great, is she doing something different? I guess this sort of implies she looked bad before. Pete tells Sheldon she IS doing something different... little does Sheldon know just how literal Pete means that.

Addison and Naomi... and Lockheart... do their surgery on the cancer survivor. Since Lockheart isn't actually a surgeon he just stands on the sidelines harrassing Addison and Naomi. They have complications and Addison decides not to implant the tissue so that she can ensure she saves the patient. Lockheart is furious afterward because he says she had time to do both but she chose not to.

Coop has to deal with the wrath of Charlotte at the hospital. She's pissed with the crap she's having to do for the health department all because of him. He tells her that he's a little busy with other stuff than to deal with her crap right now. Just then the mom rushes to him because the boy can't breathe. They have to get a tube down the boys throat to get oxygen to him. Coop is not at all happy with the mom for still not allowing them to do the vaccination on her other son. But Coop's done playing nice guy he goes to the kid and gives him the vaccination, Charlotte holds the mom back. She tells them that if something bad happens she'll be suing them. Then there's a code blue on the measles boy. Coop tries to save the boy but ultimately his efforts don't work, the boy dies. The mom breaks down at the sight of her dead child. She just grabs him and hugs him and cries. Coop and Charlotte are also crying, Charlotte tells Coop he did everything he could.

We get more of Dell's back story thanks to Heather. Turns out Dell used to be a user himself. He was just able to quit before he was totally addicted. Later after Heather is gone Dell talks to Violet and tries to figure out what he should do about Betsy, take her away from Heather or not? Violet tells him that he needs to think of what is best for Betsy.

Sam and the health dept lady have it out. He tells her that she just enjoys being a bully. She says that before she even meets the docs they all hate her so she just tries to be absolutely professional and do it by the book. The lady quits being so damn professional and starts being real. She tells Sam she hasn't been able to look at him for two days because his lips look like chocolate. He tells her that he's sorry he misjudged her.

Pete goes to Violet and asks her why the two of them together is such a crazy idea. A while later she tells Pete that she likes what they are now right now, she doesn't want it to be more.

Dell goes to Heather's apartment and apologizes to her. He says he wants them to work things out without court. Heather seems to want that too.

After a talk with Naomi, Lockheart talks to Addison and apologizes for being such a douchebag. Addison did something she really didn't want to do in the first place and he was still a prick about the whole thing. Addison tells Naomi that if she wants to work with Lockheart again go right ahead, don't not work with him because of her.

Sheldon goes to Violet's office and tells her he meant what he said about liking her and would like to go out with her again, just as friends without all the pressure. Violet thinks that would be good too. She and Pete just need to keep having hot sex. Forget about Sheldon!

Sam and the health dept girl go clubbing together and have a blast. I think this is definitely going to turn into something.

The ep ends with Addison calling Kevin and saying she misses him. Duh!
