Scrubs - "My Happy Place" (Episode 804)

Well, it's about time - three episodes without the Todd! JD and Elliot were becoming better friends, going to movies (produced by Oprah Winfrey) and dinner (at a restaurant Oprah owns) and enjoying breakfast together when JD had Sam (they ate "Oprah-Os". When JD opened the box, Oprah - actually Whitney from payroll doing her "Oprah voice" - said "Who wants to eat some cereal?") Turk (where was he during the last episode anyway?) is applying pressure to a patient's abdomen and a fart is emitted. Turk told the patient "it's perfectly natural" and the patient responded "that was you." Cox was supervising Turk's consult and he wanted to know why. Cox said that the patients would agree to anything that a "blodletting corpse carpenter" (like Turk) would suggest and he wants to make sure the patients make the right choice (and he just doesn't trust Turk). JD noted that Kelso was still hanging out at Coffee Bucks every day. Ted finally asked him why he was spending all of his time at the place where he used to work. He said it was sad, which, by comparison, made his life "seem....sigh..still sad." Ted asked Kelso if he had anything better to do and he said he's got tons of stuff going on - he was just there to stock up on muffins before leaving on a vacation with Enid. Since Maddox was gone, Janitor was back and JD was less-than-thrilled. What was worse was that Jimmy, the overly touchy orderly was back too - and Janitor took the liberty of telling him how much JD "missed him." Uh-oh.

JD sensed that something was wrong with Turk and he was right. Turk told him that Cox was all up in his business. Elliot couldn't believe that JD knew that Turk was upset and JD told her he could feel "a heat" when his best friend was disturbed (and waited for Elliot to come back with a gay joke.) Turk consulted (with Cox still looking over his shoulder) with a patient who needed a kidney transplant. The patient wanted his wife to be the organ donor. He ordered tests and the patient agreed, confident because Cox told him that Turk was the best surgeon in the hospital. Turk was surprised to hear the complement but Cox said that the "bjest surgeon" at Sacred heart was equivalent to the smartest cast member on "The Hills". Cox went on to note that The Todd was deemed "competent enough" to perform a kidney transplant on another patient but that he was duped by Cox into thinking that from one inquiry to the next, the glass window between them suddenly became too thick to hear through. Ted heard that the Janitor was back and went running through the halls to find him. He was so happy that he had returned, but he couldn't really show it because it hurt when he smiled.

It took Elliot a while, but she finally came up with a gay joke to describe JD and Turk's "second sense" about each other - the only thing gayer would be if they actually went home together and made love (which immediately put the disturbing image in JD's head). JD and Elliot went to Coffee Bucks and discovered Kelso, who was supposed to be on vacation. Janitor said mopping wasn't like riding a bike and had Ted doing his work for him while he massaged his sore wrist. Ted asked Janitor what had happened to the guy who replaced him. It seems he was let go by a chief of medicine who looked a lot like Janitor. Kelso told Elliot that since he retired he found himself with more free time than he anticipated and said that he and Enid did want to travel but they didn't have the money. JD and Elliot tried to escape before Kelso shared something overly personal that would trap them in Coffee Bucks, but were too late. Kelso admitted that he never imagined he'd become an old man who had no idea what the hell to do with the rest of his life. They're not going anywhere for a while. Turk told his kidney transplant patient that his wife wasn't a match and put him on the transplant list right away. Cox came in and told them that The Todd's patient's wife is a match for Turk's patient and vice versa. What a co-inky-dink! Elliot told Kelso one of her "inspirational stories", which always seemed to end with a suicide, but Elliot said that when her cousin couldn't land her dream haircutting gig, she moved...to a better place. JD promised Kelso that he'd soon find his happy place. Janitor told Ted that he wasn't actually hired back and technically, he doesn't work there. Turk's patient suddenly doesn't want to trade kidneys (which is really bad news for the Todd's patient, who needs a kidney ASAP). Kelso thanked JD and Elliot for talking to him and said it was nice that they were dating again.

JD and Elliot told Kelso that they weren't dating - but they were doing everything a normal couple does except have sex. Kelso leaves the table and JD spills coffee on his shirt. Elliot asks him if he still thinks of her "that way" and he pictures her in a skimpy outfit. JD poses the same question to Elliot and she sees him shirtless (because he took off his shirt after he spilled coffee on it). JD thought that maybe they should discuss the status of their relationship. Cox wants to know why Turk's patient changed his mind about the transplant and Turk told him that the couple didn't trust the other couple. Cox said they were screwed, to which Todd said "awesome". (Turk had to explain that in Todd's world, if anyone gets screwed it's a good thing. Janitor told Ted he would get his job back, just because he's there. Turk had a solution for the kidney transplant dilemma. They did the surgeries simultaneously, taking the issue of trust out of the picture. JD admitted that he was still crazy about Elliot. She told JD that he crushed her when he left. JD told her she hurt him too. Elliot believed they were where they were because they were both lonely and had no physical contact for months - except for Jimmy, of course. The kidney transplants went off without a hitch and Cox complemented Turk on his work. Turk sarcastically replied that he was "so desperate" for Cox's approval. JD tells Elliot that although they can't forget about what's happened to them in the past, they can remember their pitfalls and avoid them, like a relationship roadmap. Elliot's stronger and they've both changed. Whitney distributes the paychecks (using her Oprah voice at Todd's request) but there's no check for Janitor. Janitor rectifies the situation by simply asking Whitney for a check. Too easy. Cox leaves Turk to conduct a consult himself. He doesn't trust surgeons, he just trusts Turk. JD was scared of ending his friendship with Elliot, who was scared of being hurt. She also didn't want to deal with judgment from others. Kelso said that was hogwash and said they needed to do what made them happy - and JD and Elliot left holding hands.
