30 Rock: Flu Shot (Episode 308)

In the midst of freezing NYC temps (it is pretty stinkin' cold here), Liz is looking forward to her yearly Caribbean vaca.  In the style of the French, Liz explains that she can wear dark socks with sandals while lounging on the beach and eat all the soft-serve ice cream her stomach can handle.  I want to go to there.  Alas, Cerie forgot to tell Lemon that the resort is overbooked, meaning Liz will have to spend her holiday hanging with crew guys and flu-sick Kenneth.

Meanwhile, Jack's determined to give things a go with Elisa.  The problem is that she's always working--for Jack's mom on weekdays and caring for an elderly man with dementia on the weekends.  Undeterred, Jack shows up while Elisa is caring for Mr. Templeton, equipped with a pizza and Monopoly.  They have a great time, but Elisa yearns to go out on the town and "live like an upper-middle class white man."

Back at work, Jack rations out the company flu shots.  Tracy and Jenna get theres, but Liz refuses to be part of the bourgeoisie and decides to band together with her newfound crew buddies: if they can't have a shot, neither will she.

Feeling good with his flu shot, Jack convinces Elisa she deserves a proper night out.  With Mr. Templeton in tow, they go to a fancy dinner, to see "The Lion King" on Broadway and dance in Central Park.

Liz receives word that her resort suddenly has an opening.  She's determined to go and decides that she must exercise her elite privileges and get a flu shot after all--even though it means the crew will likely turn against her.

High off of their last date night, Elisa and Jack decide to pack up Mr. Templeton and do it again.  When Jack arrives to pick them up, Mr. T's son pays an unexpected visit.  Elisa shoves Jack behind the curtains, and when Mr. T becomes surprisingly coherent, spilling the beans about his big night out, Elisa says he's been watching too many cartoons.

Jack steals a moment with Mr. T as he makes his quick exit from the apartment and sweetly explains that he really likes Elisa.  He's spent the better part of his life letting good things pass him up, and he doesn't want it to happen again.  Mr. T understands, and bless his heart, asks if the three of them can go to Washington Square Park on their next outing--it's where he proposed to his wife.

Still hiding the fact that she got a flu shot, Liz is in a panic when the tell-tale rash begins to form at the injection site.  Tracy and Jenna are also feeling bad about abandoning the crew and getting shots, so they decide to put on a comedy show to raise everyone's spirits.  Becuase "laughter is the best medicine!"

When Liz tries to shut down the ridic comedy show, she ends up getting a pie in her face.  As she removes her hoodie to wipe the cream away, a crew member notices her rash and everyone is privy to her big lie.  The crew goes back to hating on Liz, and Jack explains that this is just the way it has to be as a member of the elite.  He encourages her to still take her vacation, but plans are halted when Liz's stomach takes a turn for the worse.  Turns out the flu shot gave her the flu, a rash and a cancelled vacation after all.
