Fringe: "Safe" - Episode 110

Hey, anyone remember that show 'The X-Files'? No, I mean back when it was good and still had both of its two main characters on it. Yeah, that's the one. Well, to me, tonight's episode of Fringe 'Safe' felt a lot like that very show, and what's more, it was probably the best of the season thus far. A downright bubbly Anna Torv, Walter's on-screen acid drop, and lots of references to obscure number patterns make littlebigmouth a very happy boy. More Fringe after the jump...

Fringe: "The Dreamscape" - Episode 109

What is it with strange holiday references in JJ Abrams shows? An homage to Leap Year in 'The Constant', a tribute to the chocolatey Easter treat Mallomars in 'S.O.S.', and now in 'The Dreamscape', we get Walter giving out turkey tips as he dips a half-naked Anna Torv into a big bucket of salt water after shooting her up with hallucinogens. Now, brining your turkey in salt water does indeed keep the skin crisp and the meat juicy, but personally, I keep my hallucinogens in the stuffing. Some things should just be left to tradition. Right, Grandma? More Fringe after the jump...

Fringe: "The Equation" - Episode 108

There's an old joke that goes like this - A man gets in a car accident and breaks both his arms. He asks his doctor, "Doc, will I be able to play the piano after my arms heal?" The doctor says "Yes, of course." The man says, "Hey, that's great, because I never could before." Well, not only did 'The Equation' manage to take that joke and turn it into what was probably one of the best episodes of Fringe to date, but it also gave us a little background into Walter's past days in the mental hospital. Not exactly a sock hop in there, but I'm sure you knew that already. More Fringe after the jump...

Fringe: "In Which We Meet Mr. Jones" - Episode 107

Now that baseball and politics have stopped ruining my television schedule (as well as my recap-based income therefrom), I'm happy to report that my favorite new fall show Fringe is once again very much alive and kicking. In fact, one might say it has wrapped its loving little tendrils right around my heart. Anyone else think that thing looked like Audrey from Little Shop of Horrors? Feed me, Pacey, feed me! More Fringe after the jump...

Fringe: "The Cure" - Episode 106

Exploding heads! Hairless rats! Blue cotton candy! Could we have asked for anything more from 'The Cure'? Well, personally, I could've done with another go-round of an LSD-soaked Anna Torv stripped to her skivvies and submerged in salt water until her mind snaps, but hey! Maybe that's just me. More Fringe after the jump...

I can't really say there was much of a Freak of the Week in 'The Cure', but there certainly was a whole lot of red bloody goop. See, first this chick named Emily gets dumped out of the back of a van somewhere in Massachusetts, and from there, she wanders into a nearby diner and orders the vegetable soup. It sounds like the beginning of a bad joke, but it's really not. Emily has no recollection of where she's been for the past two weeks, or what the hell all those red marks are all over her body, either. The guy behind the counter calls the sheriff from up the street to come down and talk to her, but as he's doing so, Emily loses her shit completely, running around the diner screaming and holding her head. As she's doing so, the sheriff makes an attempt to get her in handcuffs, but AAAAAAAAAHHHH! THAT GUY OVER THERE IS BLEEDING OUT HIS EYES! So is that guy! And so is she! Before long, everyone is bleeding out their eyes, including Emily. The poor girl's looking around the place wondering what she's done when BLAMMO! Her head blows right off her shoulders, and a truly impressive spray of red bloody goop splatters all over the inside of the glass door. Awesome!

Fringe: "Power Hungry" - Episode 105

As I'm sure most of you knew, Fringe wasn't on last week because we had to watch John McCain work out his restless leg syndrome on national television for 90 minutes, but now that we have all that nonsense worked out (we do, right?), we're back on the air. With another freak of the week, more kookiness from Walter, and a blink-and-you'll-miss-it appearance of The Observer, it looks as if we're right back on track. More Fringe after the jump...

Fringe: "The Arrival" - Episode 104

With this week's episode of Fringe entitled 'The Arrival', I believe Fringe has turned a corner. The first three episodes of the show were more in the Monster Of The Week format that diehard fans of The X-Files take such pride in, but this one seemed, well, different. I said to myself about halfway through the episode that I believed we were about to learn something very big, and in part, I was right. As was expected, there was no real huge payoff to be found within its sixty-minute running time (after all, it's still an Abrams show), but being that JJ co-wrote the episode himself, I wasn't exactly shocked to see 'The Arrival' dole out a few more layers of what will inevitably be its master plan for at least the rest of the season. What exactly happened between Peter and Walter that forced them apart? What about The Pattern? Is it manmade, or something else completely? Why is the seemingly undead character of John Scott starting to play such a large role? Well, that's a lot of whys and whats that might not get answered for who knows how long, but for now, let's check out 'The Arrival'. More Fringe after the jump...

Fringe: "The Ghost Network" - Episode 103

Well, hey! what do you know? Tonight's psychic artist guy wasn't really much of a ripoff of that emo dork on the first season of Heroes, after all. In fact, I think tonight's episode of Fringe was probably the best of the three we've seen so far. The pilot was a strong start to a rather quirky premise, the second episode faltered a bit in establishing the characters and any real sense of originality that this show will absolutely need to survive, but this third episode, 'The Ghost Network' really seemed to at least want to make a name for itself. Characters were expanded, backstories were at least somewhat delved into, and most importantly, the cutie-pie geek girl lab assistant with the even cuter name of Astrid Farnsworth was given a bit more to do than just stand around acting surprised. Anyway, let's brew up some LSD and dive right into the thing. More Fringe after the jump...

Fringe: "The Same Old Story" - Episode 102

Welcome back, Fringers! Boy, we really need a better nickname as fans of this show, don't we? The second episode of JJ Abrams' new genetically-enhanced baby aired last night, and while it wasn't exactly earth-shattering in originality, it more than made up for it in cool-ass imagery and some truly geeky Dr. Frankenstein-style moments. Jules Verne! Psycho serial killers that need to eat parts of their victims to survive! Eyeballs being pulled out of heads in the name of science! Cool. Once again, I'll try to keep my Abrams fanboy geekery to a dull roar this time around, but I'm already anticipating failing miserably. On with the show. More Fringe after the jump...

Fringe: "Pilot" - Episode 101

Wait! What's this? A new sci-fi show on FOX that's being helmed by 'Lost' creator JJ Abrams and the two dudes who wrote 'Transformers'? Gosh, I hadn't heard anything about it, if you don't count the 47,000 ads about it that have been plastered virtually everywhere for the past year or so. My fragile little mind is blown. Well, it's called 'Fringe', and if you haven't heard about it by now, would you allow me the honors of lifting that rock up off of your tender little head? Don't worry - sunshine is good for you. Kinda. In any case, there's more 'Fringe' after the jump.
