Dancing With The Stars

Dancing with the Stars: (Episode 603)

All twelve celebs were back last night to perform before the first ever DWTS double elimination on Tuesday. While the start of the night was lackluster, the early front runners in the competition revived us during the second half. Steve "The Gute" Guttenberg kicked things off with a self-described "macho mambo combo." With help from her mom, Anna was able to choreograph a number that distracted from Steve's lack of technical ability and focused on his performing skills.

Dancing with the Stars: (Episode 602)

Stars of screen, stage, ice and court took to the ballroom floor last night as the women of season six delivered their first performances.  Blowing the men out of the water, standouts Kristi Yamaguchi and Marlee Matlin now lead the pack of contenders for the mirrorball trophy.

Up first was American Pie actress Shannon Elizabeth and partner Derek.  After some trouble with her dancing heels in rehearsals (she's a self-titled "flip-flop girl"), Shannon shaped up and produced a mediocre cha cha cha.  In a very short skirt, Shannon's footwork mishaps were on full display and the judges definitely noticed.  Len encouraged she keep wearing the skimpy outfits but that she perfect her leg movements If she's going to do so.  She has the Shandi Finnesey (season 4) syndrome where she doesn't know what to do with her lanky limbs.  Carrie and Bruno also advised Shannon work on her flexibility, but all in all, she reaped the benefits of being the first performer of the evening—a unsubstantiated high score of 21.  Word on the set is that Shannon is quite the diva; reports say she's shunned her provided makeup team and is alienating other contestants with her already high level of confidence.

Dancing with the Stars: (Episode 601)

Season six kicked off with performances from our male stars only.  Among them magician/illusionist Penn Jilette, NFL Man of the Year Jason Taylor, Latin actor Cristian de la Fuente, radio host Adam Carolla, R&B singer Mario and actor Steve Guttenberg.  Watching in the audience and taking notes for their performances tomorrow night were female contestants Shannon Elizabeth, Monica Seles, Marissa Jaret Winokur, Priscilla Presley, Kristi Yamaguchi and Marlee Matlin.  No couple will be eliminated this week—every couple will perform again next Monday.

Dancing with the Stars: The Final Results (Episode 521)

Like a true Indy 500 champion, racing star Helio Castroneves celebrated his Dancing victory with a quart of milk in hand.  Completely shocked to have edged out Spice Girl Melanie Brown for the win, Helio teared up as he accepted the mirrorball trophy along with partner (and now two-time winner) Julianne Hough.  Although Mel was widely regarded as the favorite to win, Helio’s charm and progression throughout season five helped him cinch the title.  As the only non-performer in the lot, Helio made up for his lack of dancing experience through determination, hard work and a great attitude.  Slapping a couple kisses on Julianne didn’t hurt things either (though it may have hurt his engagement if you believe the current rumors)!

"It was a cross between Baby Jane and the Bride of Chucky!" --Bruno"It was a cross between Baby Jane and the Bride of Chucky!" --BrunoSeason five wraps up tonight after a series of disappointing final performances.  Despite being revered as the most talented group in Dancing With the Stars history, our three remaining celebs (Melanie Brown, Marie Osmond and Helio Castroneves) delivered lackluster judges’ pick and freestyle performances Monday night. Nevertheless, they’ll each have one last chance at redemption tonight as they perform for Carrie Ann, Len and Bruno’s scores only.  The judges’ totals will then be combined with last night’s scores to determine the champ.

90210-ver: Eliminated couple Jennie Garth and Derek Hough.90210-ver: Eliminated couple Jennie Garth and Derek Hough.

Following in the footsteps of fellow 90210 alum Ian Ziering, Jennie Garth fell just short of the Dancing With the Stars finals last night. Even though she and partner Derek Hough received their first perfect score of the season Monday, it wasn’t enough to surpass Marie Osmond’s voting posse, and ultimately, elimination.

Dancing With the Stars: (Episode 518)

I can’t believe next week someone will walk off with the hideous mirror-ball trophy and be crowned season five champion of Dancing with the Stars.  Time has zipped by (it's totally because I’m torn between Mel B. and Helio!) and last night the remaining four couples put it all on the line to make it to the finals.

Kicking off the ballroom round, Marie Osmond chose to perform the quickstep.  A ballsy move considering her best dance of the season was a quickstep to “Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy” just two short weeks ago.  Needless to say, she couldn’t recapture the magic, but nonetheless looked pretty impressive.  For Marie, that is.  Despite a few missteps, Marie and Jonathan (who looks thrilled to bits to be in the semifinals) walked away with two 10s and a 9.

Flying on Home: Cameron Mathison and partner Edyta Sliwinska.Flying on Home: Cameron Mathison and partner Edyta Sliwinska. No one seemed more surprised than Cameron Mathison himself when it was announced he and partner Edyta Sliwinska would not be advancing to next week’s semifinals. The All My Children star with a penchant for showing his bare chest had confidently declared he would ‘bring home a 10’ on Monday, but instead the wannabe Superman will be going home. As he watched a mash up of his best Dancing With the Stars moments, Cam seemed to get a little teary. And after his incessant complaining about his hectic schedule, Cameron sheepishly said he doesn’t know what he’ll do with his newfound free time. I’m sure his kids could think of a couple suggestions.

Moving on the semifinals, in the order they were revealed, are:

Dancing With the Stars: (Episode 516)

Fighting to secure their place in next week’s semifinals, each of the remaining five couples had their eye on the prize last night. While some were a little overzealous in their pursuits (Jennie, Cameron), others continued to stride ahead of the pack (Helio, Mel B.).

Jennie Garth and partner Derek started the night off with the jive. A confidence boosting tête-à-tête with Richard Simmons (sparkly tank top, booty shorts and all!) may have given Jennie the assurance she’s desperately needed, but it also seemed to backfire once she hit the dance floor. With loads of enthusiasm, Jennie couldn’t keep her routine under control, resulting in sloppy moves, timing gaps and poor posture. The judges didn’t handle Jennie with kid gloves as they previously have, and Len even told her he didn’t think that was a semifinal worthy dance. A score of 24 left Jennie stunned (Richard really worked his magic—she thought she did great!).

Dancing With the Stars: The Results (Episode 515)

Eliminated!Eliminated!Jane Seymour’s poise and grace helped her hang on for seven weeks, but even good ol' Johnny Cash couldn’t help her solicit enough votes to remain in the competition.  With tears in her eyes, Jane thanked partner Tony Dovolani and called Dancing With the Stars the best time of her life.  Decked out in a sequined gold lame mini dress, Jane and Tony took to the floor one last time as the following celebs breathed a sigh of relief:
