Dancing With The Stars

Dancing with the Stars: (Episode 514)

With Sabrina Bryan’s reign as season favorite over, last night was anyone’s game.  The chance to claim the top slot was made ever more difficult, however, due to the double performances each couple had to deliver.  And we’re not talkin’ a group dance this time, they all had two brand new, complete individual dances on their plates.  Not surprisingly, the results were a touch sloppy, and since we’re past the mid-season point, the judges didn’t hold their tongues when it came to criticism.

Dancing with the Stars: The Results (Episode 513)

Eliminated: Cheetah Girl Sabrina Bryan and partner Mark Ballas.Eliminated: Cheetah Girl Sabrina Bryan and partner Mark Ballas. In the biggest shock of the season, Cheetah Girl and judges' sweetheart Sabrina Bryan was sent home last night.  Although she and partner Mark Ballas received some well-deserved tough love from the judges on Monday, no one suspected they would be in danger of elimination.  Mouths literally dropped when Tom Bergeron announced Sabrina's name, and even the seemingly neutral host felt compelled to comment, "I had you so pegged for the finale!"

Joining Sabrina and Mark in the elimination showdown were Cameron Mathison and Edyta.  Defying all logic (clearly Jane and Marie should've been in their places), these two couples were among the highest ranking and most promising of the season: Sabrina as most consistent and Cameron as most improved.  But it all comes down to America's votes, and as Bruno said, you can't assume the couple you like best it going to make it--you must vote!

Remaining in the competition, in the order they were revealed, are:

Dancing with the Stars: (Episode 512)

Aside from commotion Marie Osmond’s unexpected fall caused last week, things were pretty glum on the dance floor.  Which meant this week was touted as the chance for comeback performances.  And since the fat of the competition was finally whittled away with Mark Cuban’s departure, the judges’ could no longer turn a blind eye to their favorites’ faults.

Up first were Sabrina Bryan and Mark with the foxtrot.  Sabrina’s busy Cheetah Girls schedule caused things to go a bit astray for the usually number one couple, and the judges took note.  Len addressed Sabrina’s harshness (really, he’s just now noticing?) and Bruno calling her out for some faulty footwork, but Carrie Ann came to the rescue with some kind comments, saying Sabrina was the perfect combination of feisty and smooth.  Although I totally think Sabrina’s slower dances have been too aggressive, if anything, she was more subdued this week than ever before.  A score of 25 left them in third place for the night.

Dancing with the Stars: The Results (Episode 511)

I dream of elimination!I dream of elimination!Hanging on longer than anyone thought he would, Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban was eliminated from Dancing with the Stars last night. After sticking to his guns and performing an entertaining “I Dream of Jeanie” routine Monday, Mark and his partner Kym accepted their fate with grace. Despite his hot head tendencies during basketball season, Mark’s turn on DWTS proved he’s got enough kindness and determination to back his billionaire status up--plus, he has 34 less pounds and a rehablitated hip to show for it!

Returning to perform an encore of their samba were Mel B. and Maks. Looks like saving the inevitable Spice Girls song for when the going got tough paid off (Mel and Maks narrowly escaped elimination last week). Spice up your life!

Back for more, in the order they were revealed, are:

Dancing with the Stars: (Episode 510)

Stars had a lot more to handle this week than just their routines.  Amidst the fires in California, there was fainting, fumbling and overall struggling in the ballroom.

The first couple up delivered a shock unlike any other we’ve seen on Dancing with the Stars.  After a sluggish samba, Marie Osmond suddenly collapsed while awaiting the judges’ comments.  Jonathan did his best to catch her, but Marie slid to the ground--very gracefully, I might add--while everyone came to a halt.  There seemed to be a fleeting thought that Marie may have been joking (after all, she was bouncing around in front of Bruno less than a moment before)--but after host Tim did a quick check and cut to a commercial break, it was apparent this was serious.

Dancing with the Stars: The Results (Episode 509)

Down for the count: Floyd Mayweather and Karina Smirnoff.Down for the count: Floyd Mayweather and Karina Smirnoff.Floyd Mayweather's round is up. After four weeks of shaking off the judges suggestions and advice (looking more irritated than interested in improving), Floyd and partner Karina Smirnoff were sent home.

Sticking around for next week's Latin night are, in the order they were announced:

Dancing with the Stars: (Episode 508)

Head judge Len Goodman and pals have gone soft this season! Another round of undeserved high scores were passed out for last night’s Viennese waltzes and paso dobles, despite sloppiness, illegal lifts and an overall lack of fluidity.

Mark Cuban and Kym started things off with the Viennese waltz. This is the first time this particular waltz has been included in the competition and although it looks simple, it’s actually full of difficult, constant turns. Now, we all know Mark isn’t the most graceful celeb in the bunch this season, but he works incredibly hard to make up for his lack of natural ability, and this week was no exception. The waltz was an improvement, for him at least, and Len called it his best dance yet. Nevertheless, a score of 22 left Mark and Kym in last place.

Dancing with the Stars: The Results (Episode 507)

Vegas or bust! Eliminated couple Wayne Newton and Cheryl Burke.Vegas or bust! Eliminated couple Wayne Newton and Cheryl Burke. Not even a ponytail and mustache could help Wayne Newton fool voters last night. After three weeks of low scores, Mr. Las Vegas and partner Cheryl Burke exited the ballroom, losing out to Floyd Mayweather and Karina in an elimination face-off.

At 65, Wayne did quite well for himself, beating out models Josie Maran and Albert Reed before his own time was up. Wayne told host Tom Bergeron he has no regrets about doing the show, saying it’s always better to “live life, not exist in it.” Then he promptly thanked his agent. Good man, that Wayne.

Dancing with the Stars: (Episode 506)

Recovering from last week’s loss of the adorably goofy Albert Reed (I’m still a little bitter), we were again subjected to mediocre dancing courtesy of Mark and Wayne, along with surprise improvements from Cameron and Jennie. Sprinkle in some great dances from Sabrina, Mel B. and Jane, and it was a decent night in the ballroom.

First up was favorite Sabrina Bryan and partner Mark with the jive. Wearing a short skirt that showcased her impeccable footwork, Sabrina proved this dance was a perfect fit for her capabilities. Youthful, energetic, fast and right on point, the jive was exactly what we’ve come to expect from this pair. The judges were fans as well, awarding Sabrina and Mark a total score of 27. Len declared this their best dance yet, although he wasn’t a fan of Mark’s mid-dance "Free Willy" moves.

Dancing with the Stars: The Results (Episode 505)

It’s another model down on DWTS as Abercrombie cutie Albert Reed is voted off, following in the footsteps of week one’s eliminated swimsuit model Josie Maran. As the professionals pointed out last night, there are three things that make your dances successful: performance, technique and fan base. Although Len dubbed Albert the “dark horse” of this season, he was still a relative unknown and popularity is clutch in this competition.
