This week starts off with Jack and Marin playing a wholesome game of scrabble. The phone rings. Marin leaps to find it but can't quite figure out where the ring is coming from. Ah ha! She finally finds the phone in a jacket pocket in the closet. She answers and politely declines whatever it is she was offered. Someone apparently called to offer her $1,000 for her 917 phone number. Jack, in shock and awe, doesn't understand why she refused. They could build a fancy new deck with that cash. She insists its her professional number even though she hardly uses it, she can't give it up. She goes on how it's a 917 number so it's priceless. It's hard to believe someone would pay $1,000 for a phone number to have a highly covered area code? Jack doesn't think she is a New Yorker so there is no need to hold on to the number. At the bar later, Terri tries to talk about the surgery with Cash. Cash, being the man of few words he is, isn't interested in talking. Terri really pushes for them to bond. He wants to chat over coffee however Cash has other plans. He's going camping. Cash then reluctantly invites Terri to come along. Eric arrives. He is raving about his band opening at the church. Sara is a little disgusted and embarrassed by the whole band thing. Ha who Isn't? Shouldn't there be an age limit on being in a band? Out of nowhere Morgan Fairchild strolls into the bar.

Men in Trees: Sweatering It Out (Episode 208)
December 10, 2007We return to Elmo after a week's break for the "Polar Express." This week's episode is about faith. The townsfolk are staring at the Chief in the Chief, a rock formation that requires a person to have faith there's a face in the mountain...or cliff...or rock formation. Damn. I shoulda have paid more attention in geology. Anyway, Sarah and Marin can't see the face so they dismiss the Chief in the Chief thing as hooey. Speaking of crap, amnesiac Patrick has really become the creep of the series. Right before Marin's radio show, he freaks out and shoves his nose in Marin's hair, telling her it smells purdy. She rebuffs him and uses the opportunity to talk on air about how all of Elmos must have patience with Patrick. She also asks Elmo what in life is worth waiting for. Ya got me. I can't even handle waiting the minute for microwave hot chocolate.

Men in Trees: Sea Change (Episode 207)
November 26, 2007
Having amnesia is a convenient way to treat your fiancee like a one-night stand.
Sometimes when life really sucks, I dream about falling down and getting amnesia. It'd be just like one of those soap opera amnesia episodes where it would wreak havoc on all of my friends and family while all I would do is lie back and go, "Who are you?" "What do you mean?" "What happened?" It would really be like wiping the slate clean! And just when everyone would get totally frustrated and depressed, I would jump up and declare, "I remember!" Everyone would then laugh and hug me, so glad to have me back, forgetting everything bad I had done before, like faking amnesia. Amnesia really would be pretty nifty. Well, except for when I would need to remember my way home. Or my debit card code. Wow. That could really be bad, 'cuz banks take hella long to send those replacement cards. Then, when they ask me to verify that I am who I am, I wouldn't be able to answer. Not unlike Men in Trees' Patrick. Everyone in Elmo wants him to verify he's still the same old Patrick, but he's just not able to come up with anything except "I'm sorry." Bah!

Men in Trees: Nice Day for a Dry Wedding, Pt. 2 (Episode 206)
November 21, 2007The day of Patrick and Annie's doomed wedding has arrived and Elmo is wild with symbolism. We pick up where the last episode left off - Marin is surrounded by wolves (the four-legged variety) while she holds Domino Dan. Marin calls Jack on her cell, but only gets his voicemail, which is surely a harbinger of things to come. She'll need him, he won't be there, she'll be torn apart by wolves. Hold on, though, looks like Marin's got a hero after all! Cash is back in time, to scare the wolves away and to provide some nice brooding eye-candy.

Men in Trees: The Girl Who Cried Wolf, Pt. 1 (Episode 205)
November 12, 2007In this first part of two episodes, there are wolves afoot in Elmo, and not just the usual two-legged variety. Apparently, the four-legged beasts are threatening the safety of the townsfolk. They're posing more than just physical harm, too. Like a pint of ice cream before bedtime, they got into Mai's subconscious and caused her to have a bad dream about Marin and Jack. Mai hurries to Marin to tell her about the nightmare, saying, "You needed Jack and he was gone! Poof!" Wow. So not like a pint of ice cream before bedtime. You know, how it just sits in your stomach and makes you hate all wretched dairy products.

Men in Trees: I Wood If I Could (Episode 204)
November 3, 2007Marin gets a knock at the door. It's Jack. Suddenly, Marin's all soft lighting and Jack sounds like a romance novel hero: "It's you, Marin, it was always you." She sighs his name and they embrace briefly before a knock at the door rouses Marin from her dreamy dream. Aw shucks, there's no soft lighting and it's scraggly Jerome at the door. Marin received a package from her publisher, Stuart, who sent her some Japanese technology to celebrate Japan buying "Letters from Elmo" - the town, not the wiggy red guy.

Men in Trees: No Man is an Iceland (Episode 203)
October 27, 2007Elmo discovers Lynn and Jack's breakup and seems to breathe a huge sigh of relief. Thank God Mallory can go back to Nick and let Marin have her man. The whole thing really made you feel terrible for heartbroken Marin, who miraculously didn't take to the streets telling people she's an alien named "Celestia." Yeah, Marin learned a lot from her breakup with Ellen. Oh wait, that was Anne Heche who plays Marin.

Men in Trees: Chemical Reactions (Episode 202)
October 24, 2007Sometimes it all comes down to chemistry. Some of us have it, some of us don't, some of us aced it, and some of us had to take freaking marine biology after flunking stupid chemistry in junior year. Alas, the townsfolk in Elmo have all kinds of chemistry, between their partners, their friends and, thankfully for Jack and his nature documentary, their otters.
We begin at the Chieftain, where Marin is gloating about her new self-cleaning oven. She's stoked about getting to cook for herself, no offense to Theresa, who understandingly says, "How many burgers can one woman eat?" Jerome answers the rhetorical question with "Five." I totally get that. Sometimes I'm like Jughead when it comes to cheeseburgers. Man, I could probably have seven right now!
