Pussycat Dolls Presents The Search for the Next Doll
April 25, 2008
Wednesday's finale showcased the final five--Natalie, Tiffanie, Chrystina, Charlye and Nichole--duking it out for the three spots in Girlicious. And while most had put their differences aside and made peace with one another, Charlye still held tight to her "discomfort" with Natalie and Chrystina.
Fittingly, the last challenge was learning how to trust yourself. Robin, Mikey and Kenn have been teaching and shaping each girls' talent and look over the past weeks, now was the chance for them to rely on their newfound confidence and skill and show the judges an entire package. For the final elimination night, the girls were assigned "Ladies Night" as a group performance as well as a solo song so the judges could take one last hard look at them individually.

The rift between Chrystina/Natalie and Tiffanie/Charlye/Nichole continued to widen this week as the girls were put on a whirlwind media tour to test their public image skills. Robin warned that how they present themselves would make or break their shot at show business, so she’ll be watching for who has the chops to handle the pressure.
But before they set off for their interviews at KIISfm and Extra, the girls began group rehearsals for this week’s elimination performance. They will be judged as one group, with the weakest member going home. Their renditions of the Pussycat Dolls’ “Buttons” and “How Many Times, How Many Lies” will determine which girl will not advance to next week’s season finale.

Carrie and Chrystina felt especially vulnerable this week. Being in the bottom two for the second time messed with Chrystina’s confidence level, while Robin placing her in a group with arch nemeses Tiffanie and Charlye snatched up any last bit of cockiness Chrystina had. Paired with Natalie and Nichole, Carrie’s struggle this week was how to shine while still blending with her group. Robin and Co.’s constant criticism with Carrie is that she and her voice command too much attention; is she better suited as a solo artist?

Next week, it’s down to the final five girls and so far we’ve seen Megan, Keisha, Charlotte, Kristin, Alexis, Cassandra, Ilisa, Jamie and Jenna get the boot. Two more will get cut before the Girlicious lineup is decided upon, so last night’s episode was a look back on the season thus far. We recapped some of the more dramatic moments (namely kitchen confrontation) and saw some new footage of the girls being catty and conniving at the loft.

It's mid-season and time for the competition to shift focus from who looks good to who sounds good. The PCDs announce that this week is about how well the remaining seven girls express themselves vocally. "If you've been hiding behind a smile," they warned, "We're about to find out!"
The girls were broken down into two groups and assigned songs before being given a private performance from vocal coach Kenn Hicks. Who knew he was a trained operatic singer?! His demonstration on how to bring emotion to a performance brought Charlye to tears. The song reminded her of her family and of her father who passed away.

The theme of the week was sexiness and rock music. And although the girls were broken into groups of three for their elimination performances, two girls were sent home and each were judged individually.
Nichole, Jenna, Chrystina were assigned “Hit Me With Your Best Shot,” Carrie, Ilisa, Tiffanie “Piece of My Heart” and Jamie, Natalie and Charlye “I Want You To Want Me.” They dove into rehearsals and it was a mere matter of minutes before Jenna started stinkin’ the place up. She has a excruciatingly hard time picking up even simple choreography, and what’s most frustrating to watch is her lack of effort. Mikey is hilariously all over her case, pointing out her every misstep. Likewise, he doesn’t miss an opportunity to take a jab at Ilisa—all under the guise of guidance, of course! This time it was the “smelly face” she makes while dancing.

Not everyone was a happy camper this week, despite having made it into the top ten. Chrystina was still hung up on being in the bottom two at the last elimination, as was Jenna for being in the bottom three (she claims to have her own “swagger” that the judges are mistaking for laziness). And while those two harped on the judges' criticisms, Jamie became extremely disgruntled over her makeover and joined the ranks of those who can't let something go.

This week's theme was charisma, and according to the PCDs, it's what can turn a "fan into a fanatic" (they're so clever, those Pussycat Dolls!). Robin deemed last week's top three performers, Carrie, Chrystina and XX, team captains and allowed them to choose their teammates for the week. Each group was assigned a song that Robin felt would allow their charisma to shine (read: the same old songs Robin always chooses); the girl with the least amount of charisma would be sent home.

The twelve Girlicious finalists moved into the Los Angeles PCD loft this week. Complete with dance studio, music room, workout center and sundeck, the girls were thrilled with their new luxurious digs. Room choices encouraged some obvious pairings, including the gossipy duo Natalie and Chrystina.
After settling in, the group received a video message from the Pussycat Dolls that introduced this week's theme: Confidence. Coaches Robin, Mikey, Ken and Dave were on hand to break the girls into groups of four for their elimination challenge. The team with the weakest performance will have one of its members eliminated.

It’s finally time to separate the girls from the Dolls. The last three standing, Asia, Chelsea, Melissa R., will perform the Ron Fair-produced “Lady Marmalade” as a group along with solo performances of PCD hit songs.
Jealous tempers flare during rehearsal between Asia and Melissa R., and the fight carries over into a dinner hosted for the girls by Mikey and Robin. Sensing something in the air, Robin gives the girls the chance to get anything off their chest. After Melissa R. says she respects Asia and hopes to build a friendship with her in the future, Asia turns the tables and calls Melissa R. out about bad-mouthing Melissa S. The fight continues well into the night, climaxing when Melissa R. tells Asia to go home a be with her daughter. Oh no she didn’t! Those are fightin’ words to Asia, and a screaming match ensues.
