And then there were 5! Mochi, Miguel, Janelle, Nick, and Cody arrive at the studio to find Elizabeth, wearing so much fringe the likes I've not seen since, well, "Showgirls", dancing up a storm with "Latin Chameleon" Jordi Caballero. Jordi's danced with Jennifer Lopez and Madonna, becoming famous for a special hybrid of Latin dance comprised of flamenco, tango, and salsa. Working in pairs, he teaches the dancers a brief routine that will show who's hot and who's not.

Step It Up & Dance: Modern Meltdown (Episode 6)
May 12, 2008So who's left? Miguel, who is still wondering why Michael is around. Michael, who can't quite defend himself against Miguel's attacks on his non-existent technique, tries to ignore him. Mochi and Janelle are the only ladies remaining, while Nick and Cody are alone in the penthouse. Which, sadly, doesn't look like much of a penthouse to me. If SIU&D makes it to a second season, do you think the dancers will get better digs?

Step It Up & Dance: Major League Broadway (Episode 5)
May 8, 2008The key to this week's challenge? Apparently, it's Jason Alexander, formerly of "Seinfeld" and currently the artistic director of a theater company which just put on a production of "Damn Yankees". I wonder what the challenge would be? That's right, it's musical theater (groan), which is good news for Broadway vets Cody and Mochi but what does this mean for everybody else?

Step It Up & Dance: Gotta Have Rhythm (Episode 4)
May 8, 2008Does anyone remember STOMP? It's alive and well this week on SIU&D, though it's aggressive style and rhythm is a bit off-putting to our dancers. It takes everybody a while to negotiate the choreography, the props, each other. Things between Miguel and Michael seem to come to a head, with Miguel bitching Michael out for having no talent, no technique. Maybe a little too much -- should they just make out already?

Step It Up & Dance: Battle Zone (Episode 3)
May 8, 2008If you didn't make it to the theaters to catch "Step Up 2 The Streets", your breakin' battle needs could be met by this ep, which saw Cody, Miguel, and Janelle winning the audition -- hip-hop dancing for film choreographer Dave Scott. The challenge? Lead crews in team battles against each other, with the elimination team to be chosen after the battle is voer.

Step It Up & Dance: Baring It All (Episode 2)
April 12, 2008The dancers appear at King King in their most provocative outfits, having been instructed in a note from Elizabeth that they should dress as such for a tour of the underworld. Or something. So they're going to hell? More like France, as they take in a performance of L'effleur des Sens, the invention of director, choreographer, and guest judge Cati Jean.

Step It Up & Dance: A Scary Surprise (Episode 1)
April 3, 2008If Elizabeth Berkley was looking for the one opportunity to advance her career and get people to think of her as more than the girl from "Showgirls", hosting "Step It Up & Dance" was not it.
I mean, one of the twelve dancers (we'll get to them in a minute) even screams "Showgirls!" in a loud screechy voice the first time they, along with judge Jerry Mitchell, get together in the dance studio. Elizabeth, gracious to the end, totally does that hand gesture for them, the one where she sort of waves her hands in front of her face -- what, she was gonna do the "I'm so excited! I'm so excited! I'm so... scared!" routine from "Saved By The Bell"? Actually, I think that's for later in the season.
